The need for diapers is truly through the roof. Diapers are a basic necessity that no baby should go without, yet countless families in our community struggle to afford them. We are challenging you to help us stock up our warehouse with 300,000 diapers so that we can continue providing essential support to families in need. Chocolates – December may be the only time of year when chocolate for breakfast is acceptable! Share your favourites and add a box to your shopping trolley! Savoury snacks – sometimes it’s nice to break up the sweetness with something savoury. Now where did we put that tube of Pringles…? Hot drinks – like a hug in a mug, you can’t go wrong with a warming cup of hot chocolate, coffee or fancy tea.

Last week, Alton’s New York office took part in our Pledge 1% volunteer day initiative, once again teaming up with West Side Campaign Against Hunger (WSCAH) in Manhattan to help alleviate hunger in the city.    WSCAH’s crucial work ensures all New Yorkers have access with dignity to a choice of healthy food and support services. Wilkinson Center will be closed on Thursday and Friday due to inclement weather. For many, this means a long weekend filled with snowball fights, hot chocolate, and cozy time by the fireplace. For others, a missed day at work can be a day without income and a missed trip to Wilkinson Center Food Pantry means weeks without groceries. Closing Wilkinson Center for just one day means an average of 60 families (240 individuals) will not get supplemental food and may have to go without until they are able to get another appointment. Because Thursday would’ve been our monthly Pantry2Go event, that number is closer to 100-120 families. It also means more of our clients will require financial assistance to compensate for days of missed work. Worst case scenario, it means replacing significant amounts of food should our power go out.
