English Tests are the best filtering mechanism that embassies can apply!!! While embassies are focusing on bringing in measures like tracking agents, capping student applications, stricter visa policies, they are overlooking the best possible way to filter out non-genuine students from genuine ones! ENGLISH TESTS !! The good ones at least. How does that work? 1. The process of gaining proficiency in a second language shows the willingness to learn, especially if the resultant proficiency is at least close to operational fluency. 2.It helps understand the level of previous educational qualifications of a student especially for India where the level of secondary education is mostly directly proportional to the English iciency of a student. 3.Higher Test scores showcase higher ability to comprehend and articulate thoughts which is a must for academic success. To filter students and decrease enrollments a destination can simply raise the language requirements for students! I would like to thank and commend ETS TOEFL Omar Chihane Kanika Mehra for highlighting the importance of integrity in the English Tests environment, how that helps all and harms none while at the same time inspiring us to help students choose the right tests and paths to study abroad. thank you.

Transforming International Education in Australia: New Standards Set to Elevate Student Experience 🌏📚 Australia is on the brink of revolutionizing the international student landscape with the introduction of the LIN 24/022 instrument, effective from 23rd March 2024. This significant policy update aims to elevate English language proficiency requirements for Subclass 500 (Student) visa applicants. The goal? To ensure that students are not only academically prepared but also well-equipped to thrive socially in Australia. #StudentVisaUpdate #HigherStandards Recognizing the diversity of international student backgrounds, the Australian government has thoughtfully included special provisions for those enrolled in English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students (ELICOS) and foundation/pathway programs. This bespoke approach ensures that all students, regardless of their educational journey, receive the support they need to succeed. #ELICOS #PathwayPrograms In a move that balances rigor with inclusivity, exemptions will remain in place for citizens from English-speaking countries and students enrolled in certain courses. This ensures that the updated requirements bolster the quality of education while maintaining accessibility for a broad spectrum of international students. #Exemptions #StudentSupport But why does this matter? Elevating English proficiency standards is about more than just academic success. It's about empowering international students to fully immerse themselves in the Australian community, unlock employment opportunities, and lay a solid foundation for their future careers. #EducationInAustralia #InternationalStudents #FutureReady Remember to stay informed about the latest developments in Australian education and visa policies. Together, we can ensure a vibrant and successful international student community.

Another timely and useful update from English Australia regarding changes to English language proficiency requirements as part of broader changes associated with the Migration Strategy. New news seems to be the mention of accepting packaged offers for ELICOS of up to 20 weeks with Foundation (and I'm assuming Diplomas) from an IELTS 4.5 overall or equivalent. This is welcome news. I'm keen to understand whether 30-week packaged offers for students entering on an IELTS of 5.0 overall on a pathway to degree programs of IELTS 6.5 or higher will be possible under the new guidelines or has 20 weeks suddenly become the maximum pathway length for direct-entry ELICOS?
Government Announcements The first announcement gives some of the details of the increase to the level of English required for eligibility for a student visa, with implementation being required from Saturday 23 March. This was an surprise early implementation of the increase to English language levels required for student visas The second announcement was a media release that aimed to promote the government’s efforts to bring in changes to impact student visa numbers in its effort to lower net migration figures. The third announcement gives further detail on the Minister’s intention to use the powers granted under section 97 of the Education Services for Overseas Students Act 2000 (Cth) (‘ESOS Act’) to suspend providers from issuing CoEs for a period of six months where they are deemed by the Minister to be bringing in students for purposes other than those contemplated by their visa. Australia has introduced new regulations that have made the process of studying abroad significantly more challenging. In an effort to address rental housing issues, the government has taken steps to reduce the number of international students in the country. Starting from March 2024, the rules governing international students will become stricter, with several key changes: ▪️ English proficiency tests will become more rigorous - International students will need to achieve an IELTS score of 6.0, while graduate students will be required to score 6.5 or higher on the IELTS exam. This heightened language requirement aims to ensure that students have a strong command of English, which is essential for academic success and effective communication. ▪️ Institutions with poor academic standards or inadequate facilities will be barred from enrolling international students. This measure is designed to ensure that students receive a high-quality education and have access to appropriate resources and support services. ▪️ The number of work hours permitted for international students will be limited. This restriction is intended to strike a balance between allowing students to supplement their income while studying and preventing them from prioritizing work over their academic pursuits. ▪️ The pandemic-related temporary visa arrangements that were implemented to accommodate international students during the COVID-19 crisis will be phased out. This move signals a return to the pre-pandemic visa regulations and requirements. ▪️ Rigorous checks will be conducted to verify the authenticity of international students' applications and their intention to genuinely pursue education in Australia. This measure aims to w #StudyAbroadChallenges #VisaRuleChanges #InternationalStudentIssues #StudentVisaUpdates #AustraliaEducationPolicy

NED & Leader in International Education | The PIE | Think, Write, Talk HE | Advising Start-Ups, SMEs & Graduate Talent | [AOF]
EXCLUSIVE: Enroly have entrusted The PIE with data showing which English tests are cited on a CAS for UK university applicants! Valuable knowledge given the government is trying to understand market share of tests and levels of university-assessed English... 💥 Now, this story can go two ways: 1 = The breadth of qualifications accepted as proof of English to increase global access and diversity 👏 and avoiding unneccessary tests/costs for applicants 👏 the incredible benchmarking work that university admissions teams do on alternative tests, international quals and degrees taught in English 👏 plus additional pre-CAS interviews to check language levels 👏 👏 👏 2 = Students taking a government approved secure English language test (SELT) are actually just a fraction of the market 🤔 Food for thought for the HOELT consultation. Yes, this is only a third of UK applicants/CAS issued through Enroly partners, but it is still a significant sample. University-assessed English plays an important part in access, including non-SELT tests 📈 With great knoweldge comes great responsibility - and this is another example of how important Enroly have become in curating the truth about application flows in the UK. I want to thank them for trusting The PIE to bring a balance to this debate 🙏 Let me know your thoughts.
