We are hiring! 📣
In the Construction Engineering Research Group at Hasselt University, we are looking for a PhD student on the assessment of time-dependent degradation of timber structures.
Circular economy is becoming more and more important, also in the construction sector. However, circular economy is not only about inventing new fancy building solutions, but also coping with the large patrimony of structures we already have. How long can we keep using these structures and in what kind of application of circumstances? An important question we have to ask ourselves... And you can help in the the search for the answer!
In the assessment of existing structures, time-dependent degradation plays a major role. When considering timber structures, it is still unclear how this time-dependent degradation and its influence on the behavior of these structures should be accounted. How can we predict the remaining service-life of timber structures suffering from degradation? What kind of measurements can be performed to provide better insight in this degradation and the impact on the strength of these structures? How does the spatial variation of the degradation affect these predictions?
Are you eager to find out the answer on these questions? Are you interested in joining a young and growing research group? Do not hesitate to apply! Then we can work together for a more circular future 🍃.
