What I really loved about being part of this year's TrainingZone predictions for L&D article was the holistic nature of the nine different experts. They give us a really broad, well thought out series of considerations rather than a series of prediction 🔮 It’s so important to have multiple different perspectives. It’s not one thing or another, it's how all these things combine and collectively work together. Yes, AI is prominent here, but it's not just the tool, it's about the application - what it can do for us. It's also about our mindset. It's about how we go into this year. And it's perhaps less about predictions, but more about what we want to manifest in our lives. And that the choices are down to us, rather than what others say will happen or won't happen. So ultimately it’s about our choices - what will happen this year is down to us❗ https://lnkd.in/eee7nnSJ #learninganddevelopment #learningchangemakers #futureoflearning

Love these thoughts on what 2024 could, will, hopefully bring. I’d certainly like to see more thought going in to micro learning, however context in certain instances are required, so let’s not be slap dash and just aim for making things short. Engagement, effectiveness, quality and meaning are all key. And it has to be the year L&D gets a firm grip on AI, because if nothing else employees will start using it. So let’s embrace 2024 with that growth mindset, be inquisitive, prepare to fail, but the discovery will bring great achievements for sure.

There is lots in here that is interesting and which I personally agree with. I am not so keen on the emphasis on learning in the flow of work. This works for skills that are instantly copiable and so often technical perishable skills, which are also conveniently easy to measure and so create data from. It works far less well for durable skills which take time to master and arguably are never mastered as they are situational and so represent a permanent lack, which can be empowering. Learning these does not give an immediate feedback or sense of achievement so can be less motivating to engage with, especially without a mature learning culture, and yet are as, if not, more needed. Given the 70% plus failure rate in digital transformation, it is the integration of durable and perishable skills applied to new challenging and surprising situations that creates agility. Plus ‘skills’ tends to emphasise the individual rather than the collective. Dx needs collectives, making the meta skill of skills management in ever changing situations, that need new combinations of durable and perishable, important. It also makes emotions management, process as a common language and, much more than skills, all important to look at. This skills agenda might be too simplistic to reduce Dx failure that much, as it is too simplistic to create sustainable competitive / organisational performance. Happy to be challenged.

Skillsoft published its first Lean Into Learning Report in 2020 – a year when so much changed. Fast forward to this week with the launch our fourth edition amidst an entirely new era of disruption with generative AI. While change can be unnerving, it often brings significant opportunity. This focus on “opportunity” is why I’m especially proud of this year’s Lean Into Learning Report. It provides a deep dive into the state of learning, while also serving as a guide for how organizations can reimagine their approach to skilling and skill-building priorities based on real learner data. Organizations that embrace continuous learning will emerge as leaders in the new world of work – and leaders in a better world to come. Download a copy of our report today. https://lnkd.in/gyuuh3DT
