🌳 Why spend time in nature? 🐿  The health benefits of spending time in nature are well understood, but what about the environmental benefits? Over the past three years we’ve been working with a coalition of partners in #Manchester to make nature more accessible, support community-led green spaces and to better understand the conditions that help community nature projects to thrive. 🔍 As part of this work, we wanted to better understand the links between nature and climate action 🌻 We found that when we connect with other people in nature the environmental benefits really blossom. Here's how: ☀️ By enabling positive experiences in nature: that's what makes people turn up in the first place 🤝 By creating a sense of community: the social dimension gives people a reason to come back 🌍 By making people feel part of something bigger: it makes change feel positive and worthwhile. Huge thanks to the Wates Family Enterprise Trust for their invaluable support and direction over the past three years.

As the Mind-Nature Institute, we acknowledge that a lot of useful #knowldge and #information is already existing but missing on dissemination, to especially our grassroot communities, policy makers, among others. We are changing this scenario and removing the barriers through; ✍ Building and facilitating multi-leveled dissemination channels and #platforms ✍ More complimentary research and knowledge co-creation ✍ ECO-learning and education programs ✍ Sharing good content from other agencies through our platforms. Today local governments are on the frontline of addressing the intense impacts of climate change. In our latest APMM Association for Pennsylvania Municipal Management Series episode on Community Health, Peter Buck from Penn State Sustainability discusses systemic challenges and innovative solutions. 🌿🏙️ A few key takeaways: 🔆 Climate action starts with informed communities. 2 days of traveling - 1 day at OOP Konferenz 😅 (Both exhausting and rewarding!) By the end of my talk I asked the audience this question: 👉 What is the first step YOU can take right away (towards IT carbon reduction)? Here are some answers. - Make data consumption visible. - Start a green Community of Practice.  - Raise climate awareness by talking to the team. - Bring to attention that CO2 reduction is often cost reduction. I wish all the people in my great audience good luck (and much fun!) with setting their first steps! 🌎

At this point in time, we need to come back into a comprehension of the entangled shared life that we are participants with. It takes courage to challenge your belief systems, shift your worldview deeply and acknowledge the massive system wide losses that are pockmarking the landscapes of our present lives and future children's. We need to learn the sentiments and rooted approaches needed to inform our pragmatic steps and actions in these coming years. And we have to do it united together. There is no other way. Climate Week continues to be such a rewarding opportunity to explore pressing topics in resilience and sustainability. On Wednesday, I had the pleasure of joining Arch Street Communications’ Nora Madonick and Karina Vangani at AECOM New York Metro’s and the Regional Plan Association’s symposium Future Proofing New York: Planning for the New Normal. The event was kicked off with a keynote by Deputy Mayor for Operations Meera Joshi, who oversees New York City’s efforts to modernize its Infrastructure, improve its public realm, and prepare for a changing climate. Three stimulating panel discussions followed, covering a wide range of issues, including important insights into the critical role of public engagement and education and the associated challenges:    -It is hard to convey that no action doesn’t mean no change. Change is going to take place even if no steps are taken.  -Public engagement is vital, even as new information emerges that can reshape a project.  -Balancing meaningful public engagement and the urgency of taking action is crucial  -Engaging with trauma-affected communities requires sensitivity, but their  feedback is invaluable.    #AECOM, #RPA, #ClimateWeek, #resilience, #sustainability, #FutureProofingNY, #NYCHA,  #PANYNJ, #BatteryParkCityAuthority
