Wesgro had the honour of hosting the Foreign Economic Relations Board of Türkiye (DEİK) on Thursday, April 18th, at the InvestSA One-Stop-Shop in Cape Town. The purpose of this meeting was to facilitate a productive exchange regarding trade and investment opportunities in South Africa, as part of the DEİK delegation's week-long visit to the country. Comprising representatives from various sectors such as manufacturing, construction, and healthcare tourism, the delegation sought to gain insight into the South African market landscape. During the session, the agency provided an extensive overview of the Western Cape economy, highlighting areas of growth and delineating investment opportunities available to Turkish enterprises. This presentation aimed to equip the DEİK delegation with valuable information to aid their exploration of business prospects within the region, potentially leading to increased foreign direct investment in the Western Cape. Furthermore, Wesgro has been actively engaged in boosting trade relations with Middle Eastern countries. As part of this endeavour, efforts have been directed towards enhancing exports to the Middle East, particularly within the Halal foods and beverages sector. The agency has been instrumental in supporting local industries to expand their footprint in Muslim countries, thereby contributing to the growth and development of bilateral trade relations. Thailand to Sign Free Trade Agreement with EFTA Next Week Thailand will sign a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) in Davos next week, as announced by Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra. The EFTA includes #Iceland, #Liechtenstein, #Norway, and #Switzerland. The FTA covers trade in goods and services, investment, intellectual property, competition, and sustainable development. In 2024, trade between Thailand and EFTA nations reached $10 billion, up 23.22% year-on-year, with exports including rice, seafood, and machinery. Cambodia has actively sought to establish bilateral and multilateral free trade agreements (FTAs) with major trading partners as part of its market and investment diversification strategy. India can be a potential candidate for this strategy. However, despite their strong bond, the feasibility of a Cambodia-India FTA (CIFTA) is in question, mainly due to the China factor in Cambodia-India relations.

Today, the UAE and the Eurasian Economic Union (#EAEU) have successfully concluded negotiations for an Economic Partnership Agreement, an important step in the expansion of our trade network – and a reinforcement of our belief in open, rules-based trade. Our relationship with the EAEU is flourishing. In the first half of 2024, non-oil trade with the bloc reached US$13.7 billion – a 29.6% increase year-on-year. This EPA will not only boost these numbers but create new opportunities for investment, innovation and industrial collaboration. The results of our partnerships with key allies around the world are clear, with the sharp increase in trade flows supporting our status as a dynamic hub for global commerce and a gateway to high-growth markets worldwide. Amid the rising economic cooperation between Cambodia and Indonesia, the bilateral trade volume in 2023 has increased by 15 percent while in the first six months of this year, it reached nearly $580 million, making it possible to surpass $1.1 billion by the end of this year.

Pakistan aims to boost South Asian trade through #SAARC A delegation from the SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SAARC #CCI), met with Federal Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan on Tuesday to discuss ways to enhance economic integration and revitalize trade within the South Asian region.
