Does this number surprise you? 📉 The Council of Premiers, meaning all current provincial premiers across the country, met in Halifax this week to discuss shared priorities and challenges. You likely noticed the lack of diversity around that table. What priorities may have been set aside as a result? Representation matters to ensure the issues of all people are brought forward for discussion. #diversityinpolitics #womensleadership #representationmatters

ICYMI: The closure of the New Orleans Business Alliance (NOLABA) marks the end of an era in economic development for the city. While the organization achieved notable successes over its 14-year run, it also faced persistent funding challenges and leadership changes. As NOLABA transitions its projects to other agencies, this decision presents an opportunity for New Orleans to reevaluate and refocus its economic development strategies. A more unified approach, bolstered by regional collaboration, could ensure that resources are utilized more effectively and equitably for the benefit of all residents. Let’s work together to build a stronger economic future for our city.

There’s an exciting trend developing; people who don’t come from a “fire background” are being drawn to the fire space, bringing new perspectives, talents and experience to bear on the wildfire crisis. Seth Schalet is a great example. Drawing on decades of business and philanthropy leadership experience, Seth turned the Santa Clara County FireSafe Council into the only such organization to pay its own way, with profitable operations and a full time staff. As he’s done many times with previous ventures, he’s used his keen business skillls and powerful collaborative abilities to turn SCCFC into a brilliantly effective and self sustaining model for other non-profits. Very few people understand the concept of “no margin, no mission” as well as does this dynamic CEO. And as I mention in the show, Seth Schalet is one of the best examples of what it means to be a mensch. (Look it up if you don’t know the term.) Learn a few of his secrets to success here in his fascinating interview. Spoiler, it begins with character, integrity, humility, curiosity, and drive.

Effective collective action is urgently needed to address the many development challenges confronting our societies.
Effective collective action is needed now more than ever to address the many development challenges confronting our societies. But this is only possible within the framework of governance systems grounded in openness and inclusion. We need to pay more attention to the quality of the public sphere – the complex network of spaces in which people come together, as members of a community, to articulate different, and potentially competing, visions of the public good. Promoting an open and inclusive public sphere is a key component of our work in the area of governance and is part of our commitment to human development. An open and inclusive public sphere is also not only a condition for the realization of the right to participate in the conduct of public affairs; it's also an enabler of peace and development. Our Governance Team has developed an open and inclusive public sphere agenda. Read below and find out more from our experts: https://lnkd.in/eaUFZSPn

A Heartfelt Salute to #NationalIndigenousPeoplesDay On this special day, I’m embracing an Indigenous tradition of sharing knowledge. A wise First Nation community member once told me, “If you have knowledge, you share it.” As someone privileged to work with First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples, I’m eager to pass on what I’ve learned about our collective journey towards Reconciliation, especially in the context of the #TruthandReconciliationCommission #CalltoAction92. Learning from a True Leader The Honourable Murray Sinclair, Chair of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, recently shared some insights. He emphasized that corporate leaders need to understand their role in the history and the damage done to Indigenous cultures, resources, and properties. This understanding is crucial for shaping the direction of Reconciliation from Corporate Canada. A Call for Change in Corporate Culture Sinclair’s message is clear: Corporate Canada’s responsibility extends beyond contracts and employment. It’s about a fundamental shift in our corporate culture - how we think, how we do business, and how we talk about each other and Indigenous resources. The Journey of Reconciliation In Sinclair’s inspiring words, “Reconciliation is a constant effort.” I’m committed to this journey, ready to learn, unlearn, and share my learning. Join the Conversation. Throwback to Our Dialogue on Advancing Democracy and Service Delivery As part of our ongoing Throwback Series, we’re revisiting the impactful dialogue on “Advancing Democracy and Service Delivery: Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality and Its Coalitions” held in collaboration with the South African National NGO Coalition and EASTERN CAPE SOCIO ECONOMIC CONSULTATIVE COUNCIL (ECSECC). The discussion, facilitated by SABC News Anchor Sakina Kamwendo, turned into a dynamic political debate as representatives from 11 different political parties engaged in a spirited exchange of opinions on the inefficiencies of coalition governance in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro. They debated how to improve service delivery and governance within their coalitions. Respondents Dr. Ongama Mtimka, PhD, a lecture, political analyst and current Acting Director of the Raymond Mhlaba Centre for Governance and Leadership, and Prof. Phakama Ntshongwana, a professor and policy analyst, provided critical insights into the challenges and potential solutions for more effective coalition governance. Watch the full event, broadcasted by ECSECC, for deeper insights: https://lnkd.in/dMxGGMNK #RMC #AdvancingDemocracy #ServiceDelivery #Throwback #MandelaUni #Coalitions #InclusiveDevelopment #Governance
