Even when global film and TV production is down 7 % in Q1 of 2024 as compared to last year, there is a 45 % increase on committed spend than last year. The biggest increase is in the $40M-$100M range, for episodic projects and medium budget studio films. The next big increase is in the $100+ showing that focus has increased on marquee projects. The struggles of independent cinema are only increasing with the degrowth in Q1, though it can change with some shining examples that get released soon. #film #tv #contentspend #global

On the brink? The UK film & TV industry's long-standing crisis stems from its fundamental lack of commercial viability. Despite factors like industrial disputes, funding woes, and economic uncertainty, the core issue is the industry's inability to consistently produce profitable entertainment products that can sustain its workforce. This inherent unviability has made it overly dependent on public funding and taxpayer support via bodies like the BFI, BBC, and Film4 for mere survival.
