The Lake Sabrina Auxiliary Spillway Improvement project comprised replacing the existing spillway slab and constructing a new reinforced concrete retaining wall along the side of the main spillway. The new reinforced concrete slab was placed over compacted soil and a slurry base with riprap and a curb to direct surface runoff. Prior to the demolition of any existing structures, such as the auxiliary spillway slab and wall, the contractor performed potholing to confirm that there was no flowing/standing water within areas that could affect the work and safety. Partnering with our concrete supplier, pump company, and admixture company, Syblon Reid pumped approximately 300 cubic yards of concrete over 1,000 feet due to limited access for trucks into the work site.

Shootcrete work An automated machine applying sprayed concrete for structural support in a tunnel construction project. Sprayed concrete, or shotcrete, is a crucial technique in tunnel construction, applied using an automatic machine for enhanced precision and efficiency. The process involves projecting a mix of cement, aggregate, and water onto tunnel surfaces at high velocity. This method provides immediate ground stabilization, crucial for the safety and speed of tunnel construction. The use of automated machines ensures consistent application, reduces labor costs, and enhances worker safety. The rapid setting properties of sprayed concrete minimize construction time while offering robust and durable support for tunnel walls, adaptable to complex shapes and profiles.

PCC( Blinding Concrete) or CONCRETE COVER. PCC(Plain Cement Concrete) has been widely accepted by the stakeholders as concrete casted directly on the face of excavated soil to provide levelled surfaces for the arrangement of reinforcement or block work, so it is regarded as not contributing to the structural strength of the structure. Most cases the mixing ratio is either 1:3:6 or 1:4:8 or less. WHILE the purpose of concrete cover is to protect the reinforcement from corrosion, fire and other potential damage while contributing to the structural strength of the structure. Most cases on site people tend to neglect the use of concrete cover at the bottom of structural components making the PCC to be the cover to rebars, having different strength based on the difference in their mixes. if this is what happen in construction, what do you think will be problem and what is the solution it? share in your comment. #civilengineering #civilengineer #construction #civilwork #engcivil #engineering #engineeringproblems #constructionsite

Health and safety on this job is just ridiculous. Cranes moving concrete girders while people stud on them, operatives walking over them with no edge protection, no PPE, cars passing under while the lift is in motion. The list goes on. We are in 2024, and no matter where this was being built, surely in 2024 a job of this size should be following simple life saving health and safety procedures. 🤯🤯🤯
Prestressed concrete girders are commonly used in bridge construction due to their high strength and durability. The process of erecting prestressed concrete girders requires careful planning, coordination, and adherence to engineering standards and safety protocols. It is a critical phase in bridge construction, ensuring the long-term durability and structural integrity of the bridge. #civilengineering #bridgeengineering #construction #precastconcrete

Seems familiar? This is anchorage , End anchorage refers to the method used to anchor the ends of concrete members, such as beams or girders, to adjacent structures or foundations. End anchorage is essential in concrete construction to ensure that the force is effectively transferred from the steel to the concrete and the surrounding structures.
