So our tour guide took us on a guided day to some stunning creeks and caves in the Belizian jungle last week. We set off from the local town and before the tour officially "started" with local history in the 4x4 travelling to our first cave, I picked up a super important marketing 101 lesson... People LOVE to tell you about themselves! And I mean this in a positive way 👏 See, our driver talked for around 20 mins non-stop about his family, his jobs driving cars from California and Colorado right down into Belize, including all the stories about crossing borders, crook police, and stuff like that. He told us of past struggles, refugees, corruption - you name it. Really fun and interesting. Plus it teaches you the art of listening for one thing. So next time you're wondering what content your audience is craving... Ask them. Ask them about themselves or their lives because, in my experience, you learn a lot more about life from the people you LEAST expected. 👏 Could not agree with this more! And I believe me, I’ve been there - it’s hard to see this when your in the marketing/bus dev trenches and are simply being reactive with content. You’ve gotta step back and look at the content your putting out into the world. Take some time to scroll through it and ask yourself these questions. Is it unique? Or does it look just like the content your competitors are putting out? Do consumers know it’s your brand just by looking at the image or video? Does it tell a story? Solve a problem? Does it emotionally connect to humans? Are their humans (faces specifically) present, preferably your employees and customers? Authentic, brand loyal, human-centric content is going to keep winning!!
