I gave this talk about the Deception of Comfort at Collision Conf this past June in Toronto. Talking about the ways in which we can all fall into the trap of deceiving ourselves with the allure of comfort at the cost of things like growth, progress, and learning. As individuals, but also as members of groups— teams, brands, businesses, and on and on. Because at the end of the day, when you get comfortable, you get disrupted. In love, in business, in life. Something happened with the recording, so we re-recorded it in our office. There is a clip below, as well as link to the full talk here: https://lnkd.in/g5Vfbgnp As ever, nothing is done alone. Jillian, Natalie, Nora, and Chloe all put in so much work to building this thing out with me. Forever pushing each other outside our comfort zones.
We're excited to share Joey Camire's most recent talk at Collision Conf. "The Deception of Comfort" delves into the individual, cultural, and business impact of our overindulgence in comfort. What's at stake when we refuse to leave our comfort zones? How are brands and businesses complicit in this complacency? And more importantly, what can organizations do to break the "Comfort Cycle"? Catch a snippet below, then watch the full recording here: https://lnkd.in/g5Vfbgnp Special thanks to: Joey Camire, Brian Tobin, Natalie Berry, Jillian Rosen, and Nora Mestrich!
Love it. Death to paradigms, standards, and best practices! ;)

2moKudos for bringing up such a deep topic with such empathy and directness. Looking fwd to watching the full vid! On the topic of comfort economy... Have you ever read the graphic novel "The Age of Earthquakes" or their prequel "The Extreme Self"? It's pretty interesting- I think you would find them great food for thought (and they are also killer from a design inspo POV). They are basically a visual essays- kind of "playful critical theory"manifestos around the complex fallout due to our tendency to increasingly be "in the world" via our "digital selfs". After I read the first one I was so inspired I did a life experiment and went without a smartphone for a year🤣 - it was interesting to say the least.
