🎉Celebrating the Birthday of the Father of Chromatography 🎉 Today, we honor the life and achievements of Mikhail Tswett, a pioneering botanist born in 1872. His groundbreaking invention, chromatography, revolutionized analytical and organic chemistry. 🔬 Born in Italy, Tswett was raised in Geneva, and later moved to Russia. Despite the challenges he faced, including his Swiss PhD degree not being recognized in Russia, Tswett’s dedication never wavered. 💪 In 1900, during his research on plant pigments, Tswett invented chromatography. He used this technique to separate chlorophylls and carotenoids, essential pigments in plants. This method involved extracting pigments from leaves with ether and alcohol and percolating the solution through a column of calcium carbonate. 👨🔬 Tswett’s invention was a game-changer. It developed into one of the major tools of chemical and biochemical research in the 20th century. Despite the initial lack of recognition, his work has had an extraordinary impact on research. #Science #Chemistry #AnalyticalChemistry #OrganicChemistry #GreatImpact #DrugDiscovery #DrugDevelopment

My research paper titled "Formation of Temporary Negative Ions and Their Subsequent Fragmentation upon Electron Attachment to CoQ(0) and CoQ(0)H(2)" has been recognized as one of the top 10% downloaded articles in ChemPhysChem*, published on behalf of Chemistry Europe. This achievement wouldn't have been possible without the collaborative efforts of my supervisors, mentors, and collaborators, whose support has been invaluable. I extend my gratitude to ChemPhysChem for the platform and opportunity to share our findings. It's truly humbling to see the impact of our research. I encourage you to read the full article and discover more about the exciting discoveries we've made. Kaushik, one of the most hard working and sincere students in my group got the reward of his hard work today. Our new paper on “Ru(II) Catalyzed Oxidative Dehydrogenative Annulation and Spirocyclization of Isoquinolones with N-Substituted Maleimides” got published in “Advanced Synthesis and Catalysis” journal. Kaushik put tremendous effort to single handedly synthesized eighty different derivatives of the spiro and annulated products. Very proud of you!! The link for the article is: https://lnkd.in/g4euDJSF. Here, we have shown a Ruthenium(II) catalyzed additive-free oxidative, dehydrogenative annulation of different malemides on 3,4-disubstituted isoquinolone to afford fused and spiro-cyclized isoquinolo-isoquinolone and isoindolo-isoquinolone derivatives. By simply changing solvent and oxidizing agents, under two different conditions, this methodology produced two different poly-N-heterocyclized products.

There it is! The first Janssen et al. I am happy to share that our research paper was published in European Journal of Organic Chemistry last week. In this study, a two-diversification-point library of 3-amino-3-[(arenesulfonyl)methyl]cyclobutanols was synthesized through a hyperbaric [2+2] cycloaddition reaction between sulfonyl allenes and benzyl vinyl ether as the key step. If you are interested, you can check it out through the link below and more cyclobutanes are on their way! https://lnkd.in/e73DAM8U

Happy Birthday, Kurt Alder! 🎉 Born on this day in 1902, Kurt Alder made groundbreaking contributions to organic chemistry with notably the discovery of the Diels-Alder cycloaddition reaction. Alongside Otto Diels, this reaction earned him the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1950. 👨🔬 The Diels-Alder Reaction 🔬 This reaction involves the [4+2] cycloaddition between a conjugated diene and a dienophile to form a cyclohexene system. It’s a powerful tool for constructing complex cyclic structures with precision and has vast applications in the synthesis of natural products, pharmaceuticals, and advanced materials. Mechanism of the reaction ⚗ The π-electrons of the diene and dienophile interact to form new sigma bonds, resulting in a cyclohexene ring. Someone remembers from experience or lectures the rules bout the formation of the "endo" and "exo" product ? If you do, please write those in the comments ! If not I will answer them soon ! 👨🔬 #Chemistry #OrganicChemistry #NobelPrize #DielsAlder #SyntheticChemistry #KurtAlder #ScienceHistory

As a physicist I find such publications very helpful for highlighting Research Integrity as "an issue for all scientists who should embrace the promotion of best practices in their own disciplines," as mentioned at the introduction. This time, we have a valuable perspective from Natural Sciences!
