🎉 Exciting news for our Cluster and the Medical Faculty of Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen! Matthias Gehringer has been appointed as W3-#Professor for Medicinal #Chemistry with a focus on protein kinase inhibitors! #Congratulations to this well-deserved achievement! Matthias has been on board from day one (2019) as Junior Professor and Associate Investigator. 🔬 Prof. Gehringer's research focuses on #inhibitors of #protein #kinases, a class of enzymes whose deregulation can lead to various diseases, especially #cancer. His research group works primarily on so-called covalent inhibitors, which achieve increased efficacy, a longer duration of action and often also increased selectivity by forming a covalent bond to the target protein. A particular focus is on the development of potential new active substances for cancer therapy as well as highly selective chemical probes for mapping the less researched parts of the human kinome. 🏆 Matthias's work has already been recognized with various awards, most recently the 2024 Portoghese Lectureship Award from the ACS Division of Medicinal Chemistry. 👏 Again, congrats Matthias on this great achievement! ➡ If you want to learn more about Matthias and his #research, check out the following link: https://lnkd.in/eRs-acf9

"In this manuscript, we demonstrate for the first time that a PolySialic Acid-Coated Nanoparticle (PolySia-NP) formulation regulates disease-associated inflammatory complement activity,” says Sheri Peterson, PhD, Sr. Scientist, Neurosciences, at Aviceda Therapeutics. “Alongside our recent work showing PolySia-NP–mediated resolution of disease-associated pro-inflammatory macrophages, these new findings support our ongoing clinical trials of PolySia-NPs for GA/AMD and our pre-clinical programs." These nanosheets are intended for the combined chemo-photothermal treatment of human breast cancer cell lines. The prepared pH-responsive nanoplatform demonstrated a synergistic effect in the elimination of cancerous cells. It is our aspiration that this research will serve as a valuable resource for fellow researchers in their scientific inquiries. I am thrilled to share our recent research paper, titled "NIR-responsive carboxymethyl-cellulose hydrogels containing thioketal linkages for on-demand drug delivery system" published in "International Journal of Biological Macromolecules" (I.F 8.2). Read the full paper from here https://lnkd.in/gU5TgRA9 This study presents a novel contribution to the development of a carboxymethyl-cellulose (CMC) based near-infrared (NIR)-responsive hydrogels using a bio-orthogonal click chemistry approach. The innovative aspect lies in the ability of hydrogel to achieve controlled on-demand drug release triggered by NIR irradiation. With its potential application in cancer therapy owing to its responsiveness by NIR light, our hydrogel emerges as a promising candidate in the field of drug delivery systems and biomaterials.
