As we continue on our journey for healthcare equality and accurate representation, Symptone wants to talk about widespread skin conditions that can affect anyone, including those in our community such as psoriasis - a chronic autoimmune disease that causes skin cells to grow too quickly. Normally, psoriasis appears as red, scaly patches of skin however, on darker skin tones it can appear as discolored patches (ranging from dark brown, purple, and gray), thickened skin, scaly patches, nail changes, and joint pain. Psoriasis is a common skin condition characterized by a thick scale on well-defined, red, thickened skin. It can often affect the scalp, either affecting a small area or spreading to the whole of the scalp. When treating scalp psoriasis, this may include using specially formulated treatments such as scalp soaks, shampoos and then immunosuppressant creams. For patients with more severe psoriasis there are now excellent tablet and injection treatments that are available, and can be discussed in clinic. #dermatology #scalppsoriasis #psoriasisawareness #psoriasisawarenessmonth

It’s crucial to raise awareness so that more individuals can receive the correct diagnosis and appropriate treatment. If you or someone you know is dealing with recurrent, painful lumps, consider consulting a dermatologist to explore the possibility of HS. #lichensimplexchronicus #lsc #eczema #itching #subscribe #share #follow #Skindisease #skincare #haircare #facecare #dermatology #ask_drskin Lichen simplex chronicus is found on the skin in regions accessible to scratching. Pruritus provokes rubbing that produces clinical lesions, but the underlying pathophysiology is unknown. Some skin types are more prone to lichenification, such as skin that tends toward eczematous conditions (ie, atopic dermatitis, atopic diathesis). A relationship likely exists between central and peripheral neural tissue and inflammatory cell products in the perception of itch and ensuing changes in lichen simplex chronicus. Emotional tensions, such as in patients with anxiety, depression, or obsessive-compulsive disorder, may play a key role in inducing a pruritic sensation, leading to scratching that can become self-perpetuating

Macular amyloidosis (MA) is a rare chronic form of cutaneous amyloidosis (see this term), a skin disease characterized by the accumulation of amyloid deposits in the dermis, clinically characterized by pruritic hyperkeratotic gray-brown macules that give a rippled or reticulated pattern of pigmentation usually in the upper back and extensor sites of arms, forearms and legs, and histologically by the deposition of amyloid in the upper dermis and close to the basal cell layer of the epidermis. MA is commonly associated with other skin diseases, such as atopic dermatitis #macularamyloidosis #amyloidosis #hyperpigmentation #lichenification #Skindisease #dermatology #Ask_drskin #trending #popular #Viral #latest #new #skincare
