“There is no Easter Bunny, there is no tooth fairy, and there is no Bielefeld!” Today, I am on my way to Bielefeld (either that or I am up for an interesting DB ride) for Hinterland of Things and I am looking forward to spending a day dedicated to B2B Entrepreneurship. What I am most excited about is witnessing the culmination of various perspectives and expertise from German Mittelstands, startups, and investors and understanding their perception of the innovation landscape in Germany. I like this quote by Frank Thelen from Freigeist, “I no longer want to talk about digitization but about innovation. We are entering a time when things will suddenly become 10 times better thanks to a modular principle.” This summarizes the impending need for innovation and digital transformation in Germany. Apart from that, here are a few other topics that I am interested in: Climate-tech: The issues surrounding climate change hold a growing urgency and I am particularly curious about how startups like Gut&Bosel and Klim are building solutions to overcome these.  Challenges mittelstands face: Hinterland of Things provides a platform for small and medium-sized enterprises to come together and present how they are leveraging tech to stay ahead in this evolving world.  Demystifying AI: To quote my colleague and fellow HoT companion, Moritz von Raczeck, “Less talking, more value creation when it comes to AI,” I look forward to discussing with industry players how they aim to incorporate AI into their operations. These points just serve as the tip of the iceberg for the event - there is so much going on and I am thrilled to discuss and ideate on them. Nineveh Zoudo and Elena proudly facilitated an innovation workshop with Tecnológico de Monterrey, embarking on a quest to revolutionize access to impact investments across Mexico and Latin America. We are immensely grateful to Miguel Ángel Rendón Valdés and Guillermo Perez Gonzalez for their partnership in this visionary endeavor! We would also like to extend our gratitude to @Jeff Sachs from the DePaul Driehaus College of Business MBA program for his participation. A special thanks to Brianne Caplan 🌟from Code Your Dreams, whose expertise in coding prototypes was instrumental in the development of the final pitch decks. 🟣 What an inspiring day at the European Innovation Council and SMEs Executive Agency (EISMEA) Tech2Market pitching event! I had the privilege of serving on the jury committee alongside esteemed professionals with backgrounds in strategy, investment, deep tech development, and the EIC Accelerator program itself. 💥 The four deep tech startups that pitched were truly remarkable. Their technologies, born from rigorous academic research and years of dedication, showcased immense potential across five distinct business applications. For some of these teams, this was their first foray into the world of investor pitches, a notoriously challenging task for scientists accustomed to the intricacies of research. 🔵 Our jury discussions centered on guiding these brilliant minds in crafting compelling pitches: how to establish an ecosystem, credibility, maintain focus, and effectively communicate the immense business potential of their innovations. What resonates with investors in the deep tech space? It was a fascinating exchange of ideas, fueled by the diverse expertise within the jury room. ✅ A huge congratulations to each team who participated! By taking the brave step to pitch, you've already achieved a significant victory. Every event like this adds a new layer to my understanding of the business world. It's not just about the knowledge gained, but also about the connections made and the horizons broadened. My key personal insights from the Workshop: - Early Validation of Ideas: Having conversations with potential customers at the concept stage can provide valuable insights and help shape the product. - Innovative Use of Business Models: Applying existing models in a new way can be key to success. - Confirming Value for Funding: Coming with already confirmed business value increases the chances of obtaining financial support. 🌟 Thrilled to share a snapshot from Day 2 of the Wisconsin Entrepreneurs’ Conference! Our CEO, Aymen Azim, participated in the panel “1+1=3: How Founders Can Work with Trusted Collaborators.” 🎤 Entrepreneurs often face numerous challenges and distractions, making it crucial to find trusted advisers who can help navigate the path to success. Aymen shared key insights on how to build and maintain trust in collaborations: • Collaborate bit by bit: Start small and relevant, and gradually build trust without overwhelming your team with too much information. • Participate in the ecosystem: Technova’s growth has greatly benefited from trusted collaborators such as the MKE Tech Hub Coalition's FOR-M Incubator and gener8tor Madison's Accelerator program. Leverage available resources and reinvest in the community whenever possible. • Take small jumps: Aymen’s final advice, “Just jump.” These are small steps that ensure the risks are minimized, but still require the courage to take action.
