Another win for science! 🏆 Our Woolly Mammoth team has achieved a global-first iPSC breakthrough. iPSC cells are a single cell source that can propagate indefinitely, giving rise to every other type of cell in a body, and while other species’ iPSCs have been readily available for years, elephant iPSCs were always elusive… until now. Invaluable for Colossal’s Woolly Mammoths, these cells can be multiplex-edited and differentiated to study cold adaptation traits like woolly hair growth and fat storage! 🤯 This progress holds tremendous potential for studying cell development, cell therapy, synthetic embryos, in vitro gametogenesis, and the use of iPSCs for nuclear transfer across ALL species! Exciting breakthrough in neuroscience research! 🧠 A repeat expansion in the C9orf72 gene is the most frequent cause of ALS and FTD. Researchers from the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry and UMCG revealed the molecular mechanism behind Dipeptide Repeat Proteins (DRP) cytotoxicity in their publication in the journal eLife. They used Amytracker 680 to localize and characterize both cytoplasmic and nuclear DRP aggregates. Want to learn more? Source: Frontiers in molecular biosciences This review discusses the use of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy in metabolomics studies of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Metabolomics examines the metabolites present in biological samples and can help identify changes associated with AD. The review summarizes the findings from NMR-based metabolomics studies on various human samples from AD patients and discusses the challenges in using this approach for AD research.

Understanding and precisely controlling cellular behavior is crucial for advancements in tissue engineering, drug delivery, and drug discovery. Our recent study integrated a maskless protein micropatterning technique on nanotopographies, enabling precise control of cellular and nuclear morphology on 3D nanostructures. This advancement has significant implications for research in tissue engineering, drug delivery, and drug discovery. Susanne Kossatz, PhD, is an assistant professor of nuclear medicine at the Technical University of Munich. This is her second NETRF award: "We aim to establish a new cell-based technology that could accelerate discovery and optimization of radiopharmaceuticals for NET treatment. High kidney uptake and retention of therapeutic radiopeptides is currently a major factor that limits clinical translation and application of peptide receptor radionuclide therapy (PRRT). Our goal is to establish a robust cell-based kidney model to investigate radioligand handling in kidney cells to predict their in vivo kidney uptake using in vitro methods and reduce the need for research animals." #Preclinical imaging of Ac-225 and other alpha emitting isotopes? After visiting several events and labs over the past months, and since we held numerous discussions with research scientists in nuclear medicine there is one thing clear to me: #theranostics and #alphaemitters are not just a passing cloud, but rather our long shot for a better future in cancer patients and cancer treatment. But the most important take home, is that scientists are not aware of the options they have, when conducting such research. So, looking at some nice images we have for marketing purposes in BIOEMTECH, I thought: why not share this and try to spread the word. You don't need to rely on guessing games or long logistics, using your well counter, to assess the biokinetics of your alpha emitting agent.- Picture below is an Ac-225 compound injected mouse, with a dose of 3.5 μCi (~130 kBq) and a scan duration of 10 minutes with our γ eye™ scanner.

Excited to share our new preprint uncovering the 3D chromatin landscape in aging neurons! 🧠🔬 Utilizing Hi-C, ATAC-seq, and microscopy, we delved into cortical neurons across mouse age groups. 🐭 Our findings reveal an expanding universe within neuronal nuclei, akin to cosmic expansion. Chromosomes drift apart due to nuclear expansion, with higher intra-chromosomal distances in outer regions, and Lamin-B-induced chromatin spreading. 🌌 The first changes in adulthood involve Lamin-B intensity and nuclear eccentricity, weakening the membrane. Only in old age, we see expansion with ruptures, blebbing, and mislocalized Lamin-B. Larger TADs dissociate, while smaller ones strengthen, especially in housekeeping and highly expressed genes. 🧬 These topological shifts impact TAD borders, resulting in an overall weakening. Changes are attributed to the growing nuclear area, shedding light on downstream effects on gene expression and chromatin topology. Remarkably, many maturation changes in adulthood reverse to a youthful state in aging neurons.
