Spatial transcriptomics is to identify the spatial organization of tumor cells and their microenvironment can provide insights into tumor progression, metastasis, and response to treatment. This is a upcoming seminar to show more in our tools for multi-omics.

Ephrin (EPH) receptors have been implicated in tumorigenesis and metastasis, but the functional understanding of mutations observed in human cancers is limited. 🔎 In their study „Recurring EPHB1 mutations in human cancers alter receptor signalling and compartmentalisation of colorectal cancer cells”, Kundu et al set out to understand the contribution of recurrent EPHB1 mutations to cancer development and metastasis. This is the first study of pan-cancer EPHB1 receptor mutations by an integrative approach involving 3D-protein structure-based bioinformatics analysis followed by rigorous in vitro validation, a robust way to identify cancer-causing mutations. Hua Wang, PhD, TLI Investigator and Assistant Professor of Medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, has been awarded $2,311,031 from NIH/ National Cancer Institute to decipher DNA damage response to develop targeted therapies for cancer. Dr. Wang researches the ATR-METTL3-BRCA1 axis, which aims to understand how these molecular components interact and influence genome stability and cancer development. ATR (Ataxia Telangiectasia and Rad3-related protein) is known for its role in DNA damage response, METTL3 for RNA modifications, and BRCA1 (Breast Cancer Type 1 susceptibility protein) in DNA repair. By studying their interactions, Dr. Wang seeks to uncover mechanisms that could lead to genome instability if disrupted, providing insights into the molecular pathways that can lead to tumorigenesis (the formation of tumors). This research could also be crucial for developing targeted therapies for cancer.

Towards a Universal Cancer Vaccine: Development of a Tool for the Discovery of Shared Neoantigens In the intricate realm of cancer, where genetic mutations give rise to tumour-specific antigens, scientists from the University of Cincinnati have developed an AI tool called "Splicing Neo Antigen Finder" (SNAF). This bioinformatic marvel navigates the complex genomic landscape, identifying shared splicing neoantigens – the dominant source of tumour-specific peptides. Using that tool, the scientists found that 90% of melanoma patients possess these shared neoantigens, which was subsequently validated in the laboratory. This discovery opens new doors for potential therapies, especially for heterogeneous cancers. I had the opportunity to attend an enlightening webinar that cast a spotlight on the integral role of spatial biology in #cancer research. 💊 With Professor Chiara Gorrini at the helm, the presentation delved deep into the landscape of #breast cancer and the nuanced interplay within the #tumormicroenvironment. Prof. Gorrini's adept use of PhenoCycler™️ has uncovered pivotal biomarkers and enabled the identification of specific #immune cell populations that are instrumental in cancer progression and response to therapy.
