What a sporting weekend of resilience! 💪🏼😅 Did you catch England’s incredible Euro quarterfinal win yesterday? What about Lewis Hamilton rediscovering what “It’s Hammer Time!” feels like again with his record breaking British GP win in F1 today, after over 2 years since his last win and thinking he may not do so again! 🏆 Amazing to see how these sporting stars despite having all the resources still have dark times where despite all the talent sometime the difference between winning and losing is ‘how bad do you really want it?!’ These stars have been talking about how resilience was the key to their success as individuals and as a team. Talent alone clearly wasn’t enough to get them through—it was their ability to bounce back, keep staying focused, and keep pushing forward despite the dark days that made all the difference. This got me thinking about our own journeys. We all face challenges and sometimes feel lost. That’s why I’ve written about: ** “My 3 Steps to Improve Your Resilience When Things Are Tough!” ** Find it in my group, “Unleash Your Resilience!” I’m really interested to hear your thoughts and if you have any other areas to add? Join here for free motivational and positivity! https://lnkd.in/eRxH7A5h We’re into the 2nd half of the year! Beginning of a new week! Forget the past and let’s attack each day this week with everything we’ve got. Keep believing, keep building hope, and keep celebrating your wins! I’m here for you! Let’s Get It, Let’s Go! 💪🏼🤜🏼😅🌟 #Resilience #Positivity #KeepPushing #UnleashYourResilience #2024Goals #winningmindset

Uninspiring & Insipid... World Cup 2018 - Semi Finals 🥉 Euro 2020 - Finals 🥈 World Cup 2022 - Quarter Finals With such strong results, one could be forgiven to think that England played excellent football during these tournaments. In the last few years, England has been blessed with a wealth of talent especially in attack. ⚽ Most are amongst the best in their clubs and play terrific football for them. On paper, their squad might be in the top 3 in Europe (premier league bias maybe 🤔). But when they play for England 🏴, their play is often uninteresting. Still they got some great results! England has topped their group in Euros this time as well but in a very drab fashion. (Whoopie 😅) So has the Manager (Coach) of England been successful or not during this tenure? My thoughts? - Results can be misleading. Making money on a bad stock doesn't mean it was a good investment in the first place. - The process has to be enjoyable for you and the stakeholders. If the fans are not enjoying the football their team plays, then the joy of winning will be fleeting. Legacy is built when you win trophies and hearts. ❤️ - Avoid attribution bias. We all have a tendency to attribute positive outcomes to ourselves and negative ones to external factors. What I would like is to see the talented folks play free flowing attacking football and hopefully get good results in the process. And you?

It’s not how you start, but how you finish ✅ Focus on the end game - I’m back with another Rugby themed post, so you guessed it! It must be Friday 😀 In 1905 a match between England and other nationalities was played at Bradford. England won 26–11 even though they were losing at half-time. Wigan's Jim Leytham scored a record four tries in succession. Whether a team game or business, things aren’t always plain sailing. It can be hard work trying to achieve our goals. So, knowing what to say to your team, even when they have their heads down, can make all the difference. What do you think the England manager told the England Team at half time that made them come out fighting to win their game? Come on share your winning lines in the comments below ⬇️ #managementdevelopment #managementskills #managementtips

The real stories behind the headlines…only in sport ! What a wonderful couple of days at Royal Troon, a course and venue that reflects this most prestigious sporting event, which for me and my pal, continues to exceed expectations year on year - well done to the R&A 👏 Due to flights we left the course earlier & missed Dan Brown - who went in as day 1 leader. So I jumped on the brilliant Open app to learn a bit more about DB as I didn’t know too much about his journey / career. I read he made it to Troon via the qualifiers. For those not into golf, this in effect, is like the early stages of the FA Cup - when non league clubs start their journey and then can end up mixing it with the top clubs, even though he is already on the top (DP) tour. In the Open, any player who doesn’t get automatic entry via qualifying criteria must enter through their regional events. It maybe the up & coming, lads from your local club, but also the odd senior pro like Justin Rose this year came through, whilst Sergio Garcia fell short. So for me, seeing Dan Brown going from the qualifier to day 1 leader made my day. We watched Rory really struggle, a star 3 ball of Rahm, McIntyre & Fleetwood battle the elements and the vintage Clarke, Leonard & Mickleson defy age on the most toughest of golfs challenges. This for me is sport at its purist. You earn the right through hard work, development, talent and creating an environment that allows you to dream and pursue the highest of ambitions. It’s an arena of Sporting development where I spend so much of my work on & off the pitch. The area that straddles top end elite and the semi professional phase. So good luck Dan, weather you go on to win it or not, you lead the Open field and the journey you had to take should be applauded & admired and you deserve all the rewards it hopefully brings … #talent #culture #coaching #hardwork #sportbusiness #golf #football

Guess what I spotted at Dunedin airport? The Black Jersey What does this Jersey mean? It depends who you ask I imagine To teams that play the All Blacks they probably know that they’re going to be in for a battle To NZ rugby players it’s what most aspire to become, to put that black jersey on or perhaps to create a legacy or to honour that legacy of all the greats that played before them and leave it in a better place once they have moved on. The one thing that everyone can learn from is the standards that the All Blacks set is a continual drive for excellence and that winning is everything. In an age where participation is rewarded without the pressure to get a result, have we become to soft and accepting of “ AVERAGE or PARTICIPATION MEDALS?” You either create a focus on winning or a focus on participation. Which one do you prefer? Is the focus on winning to outdated? Be great to get your comments. Do you agree? #sales #salestraining #salestrainer

I was at a workshop yesterday facilitating a team session on continuous improvement, and the leader quoted this phrase from Vince Lombardi... "Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection we can catch excellence" I think it is spot on, so I'm sharing here for some inspiration! Vince Lombardi was coach for Green Bay from 1959 to 1967. No coach in American National Football League's history achieved more success in less time than Lombardi did during his nine seasons in Green Bay. He led the team to five championships including two Super Bowls. #Excellence #ContinuousImprovement #TeamGrowth

In Southgate We Trust Yet another Semi Final appearance under Gareth’s leadership, something that in recent years has become the norm. Yet he still gets his fair share of abuse. I get and understand everyone has their opinions and would potentially play this player or play that shape. But can we all agree he has done a fantastic job to date? Prior to Gareth taking the reins England exited Euro 2016 at the last 16 stage losing to Iceland, and even worse at the 2014 World Cup where we finished bottom of the group. Does he play open attacking football? No! Something I believe we are all crying out for especially with this crop of offensive players, but we all have to appreciate the success he has brought in his time as our Manager. Would you settle for the lack of free flowing attractive football for us to be successful and win the Tournament? I have been in many successful sides, having gained six promotions and I would say over the course of a Season we played Excellent couple times, Very Good a hand full of times, Good 8-10 Times and Average the rest. My point to this is, I play football to win. And I’m realistic that we are not going to be fluent and consistently playing to our maximum. Am I disheartened at our current style as a National team? Yes. But I guarantee we won’t be talking about our lack of intensity and efforts in front of goal if we are to be lifting the Trophy in a week’s time. We are not blessed in that group of players with many winners, and at the latter stages of a tournament that experience is huge. John Stones, Kyle Walker, Phil Foden and Jude Bellingham all regularly winning Trophies but on the International stage have yet to put one on the board. Do we have what it takes to get over the line? Do you need serial winners to be successful on the International stage? If that’s the case Jack Grealish should be apart of that group but that’s another discussion point.

Leadership is coaching & coaching is leadership! Great words here from a great leader & coach.
The Crusaders are one of the most successful rugby teams in the world. They’ve won 14 Super Rugby championships, produced more All Blacks, more All Black captains, and more All Blacks coaches than any other team. So it might be surprising to hear that champion coach Robbie Deans, who led the team from 2000-2008, says the rugby’s easy. For Robbie, the thing that sets the Crusaders apart is not their technical/tactical skills. His first job is to create an environment where the players are ready to immerse. Where they’re fully present, engaged, and connected. And it’s from that place that the Crusaders play great rugby. This concept applies to team leaders in any environment. We often think our job is to focus on technical skills, when our first job is to create the environment where our teams are ready to give their all for each other. Hear it in Robbie’s words: --- Build your own championship team. Ollie Watkins was rejected from a club as a kid for not concentrating enough. He failed twice to win a playoff final and gain promotion. The second left him in tears. He was still playing non-league football at 20. Many of his current England teammates were playing in the Premier League at that age! He didn’t make the England squad for Euro 2020. He got cut from the final England squad for the 2022 World Cup. Last night Ollie Watkins proved that we are all on our own journey. Struggle isn’t the opposite of success…it’s part of it. You are exactly where you’re supposed to be… Well done pal! 👏
