Dogs or cats? Yesterday I asked my network and dogs won by a landslide. Speaking of dogs, at 13 years old, Maisie just learned a new trick - barking on command! It's never too late to learn something new. Here's a question for hiring managers: would you take a chance on someone with years of relevant experience, who continuously learns and masters new tech, even if they haven't worked with your exact tech stack? Let me know in the comments below! #newtech #dogs #recruitment #techcommunity

At Hodge we value the stories behind every account, these stories create your moments. Whether it’s helping a family buy their first home or supporting a developer build their next, we’re here to make those moments count. We put together a small video, including colleagues from across the business and even some of the customers we’ve been able to support in the moments that mattered to them. It’s important to take stock of the work you do, no matter how big or small and how it supports society and the community around us. “In Moments of adversity, Integrity and empathy shine the brightest” Reflecting on last weeks post reminded me of when I worked at one of the national companies back in 94-95 and was on the verge of signing a 750k deal with Tilcon to install remotely monitored CCTV in a number of quarries with the only thing standing in my way was a presentation to the board and a live demo of DVST from dedicated Micros (a digital transmission system) with the plan being that we would set up a system and simulate a break in to site which would be picked up and the video transmitted to the board room, that’s all we needed to close the order!! As the meeting started the guy from DM asked if the board would like to see the system dial into a site in Australia and switch a light on and open a gate, this was greeted with real interest, so the chap set about changing the settings and dialled into Australia, everyone was impressed and now for the main event however whatever the chap did he couldn’t get the system to reset and connect to the local site and as time went on the board got bored and left leaving us with no order! My regional director was going to flatten the chap from DM and even as a young guy myself I stood in between them and took the flack. An autopsy ensued in the following days and my director wanted me to support him in getting the guy from DM the sack, I said I wouldn’t do it, the guy did his best and I could tell just how gutted he was. Equally the outcome wouldn’t change and maybe we had as much to learn. Little did I know that our paths were destined to cross again a couple of years later when I applied for a regional managers job at DM, I’d forgotten about the big problem two years ago and paid no attention to the name of the guy who was interviewing me, I even didn’t recognise him as I entered the room, but clearly he remembered me because as we shook hands he simply said, when do you want to start and what car did I want. Clearly looking confused he quickly reminded me of that fateful day and that he knew I’d saved his job without knowing it and he had gone on to be highly successful within the company. Be careful of the fingers you stand on the career ladder.#empathy #adversity #integrity #dotherightthing
