"Thousands, maybe millions, of people will surge into U.S. cities in the next few years for mega-events. They will visit cities throughout the country for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup and 2026 World Cup, and then Los Angeles for the 2028 Summer Olympics. The public transit agencies serving these areas will be challenged to 'not steal the headlines' from the events, as Phillip Eng, GM and CEO of the MBTA, stated at the Mobilizing Millions: Optimizing Transit for Mega Events Session at the 'American Public Transportation Association's 2024 TRANSform Conference." https://lnkd.in/eDkJwqja #APTAtransform24

The 2024 European Football Championship leaves a mixed impression on the hospitality industry in Germany⚽ The European Football Championship is over and the expectations of the hospitality industry for Euro 2024 have not been fully met. Germany's early exit put an abrupt end to the summer fairytale not only for the fans, but also for the industry😕 The DEHOGA Bundesverband reports that the European Football Championship in Germany has not resulted in any growth in turnover for the hospitality industry. According to a survey of 2,730 businesses conducted by the DEHOGA Bundesverband, around 88 % of the restaurants and hotels surveyed did not record any positive effects. Only 8.1 % were able to benefit from the European Championship, with pubs, bars and beer gardens in host cities such as Berlin and Hamburg reporting a better response. Dehoga President Guido Zöllick said that the changeable weather and the elimination of the German team in the quarterfinals had dampened the mood. Nevertheless, the European Championship was an important driving force for strengthening tourism in Germany. What impact did you see during Euro 2024? Share your experiences in the comments!💬👇 More information on the current Dehoga survey can be found here: https://lnkd.in/ebSSeRcp #engelvoelkershotelconsulting #evhc #EM2024 #Hospitality #Gastronomy #Hospitality #Dehoga

The chaos at the Copa America final in Miami raises significant concerns about the U.S.'s preparedness to host large-scale international events like the World Cup. The lack of security, overcrowding, and poor planning are indeed alarming. These issues not only disrupt the event but also lead to potential financial repercussions, such as chargebacks, which can strain the relationship between fans, event organizers, and merchants. However, the World Cup involves more extensive planning and coordination among various cities and venues. The U.S. has experience hosting large international events successfully, such as the 1994 World Cup, which was well-regarded for its organization and security. To ensure readiness for the World Cup, it’s crucial to: 1. Improve Security Measures: Implement stricter security protocols and crowd control measures. 2. Better Planning and Coordination: Learn from past mistakes and enhance coordination among all stakeholders, including local authorities, event organizers, and security personnel. 3. Enhanced Ticketing Systems: Use advanced technology to prevent ticket fraud and manage entry effectively. 4. Infrastructure Investments: Ensure that stadiums and surrounding infrastructure can handle large crowds safely and efficiently. If these steps are taken seriously, the U.S. can address the shortcomings observed in Miami and successfully host the World Cup. It’s a matter of learning from mistakes and committing to better preparation and execution. #CopaAmerica #MiamiDisaster #WorldCup2026 #EventPlanning #SecurityFail #USHost #FootballFans #TicketingIssues #Chargebacks #SoccerSafety #EventManagement #USSoccer #SportsEvents

Whilst we may all assume that these events won't have an impact as they aren't in the UK, can we really predict how many people would be watching and celebrating a Scotland or England win in the Euros, or a great night of Olympic coverage? Alternatively, these major events are a great opportunity for team building and by offering the option of watching together around a company giant screen...the critical thing is to plan ahead.
This summer we have two major sporting events to look forward to in Europe; the football Euros in Germany and the Olympic Games in Paris. We’ve looked at 10 areas for businesses to consider to keep things running smoothly - like the impact of traffic and security amid large gatherings. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/er5BZz9x

📅 Already planning my 2026 calendar to align with World Cup 2026. I've written recently about building events around lifetime moments as well as citywides, but what happens when the two occur at the same time. To say it will be epic, is an understatement. World Cup 2026 will do just that as the tournaments international appeal and multi-city/multi-country setting aims to blanket Canada, Mexico, and the USA. Building events around lifetime moments and citywide has endless possibilities; Considering fútbol's dominance on the world stage, international attendees will likely jump at the opportunity to attend a meeting or an event that aligns with the tournament. Would you book your next annual meeting or retreat to align with World Cup 2026, slated for June and July? ✔️Happy to share information, ideas and resources. Reach out directly if you plan offsite meetings, conferences, and events for organization: #eventmanagement
