📢📄 I am delighted to share that our scientific article entitled "Assessment of Enzymatically Derived Blackcurrant Extract as Cosmetic Ingredient—Antioxidant Properties Determination and In Vitro Diffusion Study " has been published in the special issue "Advances in Natural Products for Cutaneous Application" of Pharmaceutics MDPI journal. 💡The published work demonstrated that the blackcurrant extract, obtained through an enzyme-assisted extraction method, contains high levels of anthocyanins with enhanced antioxidant activity. 📢 **Exciting News!** I'm delighted to share that my latest research article, "Click Chemistry" Inspired Synthesis and Antimicrobial Evaluation of 1,2,4-triazolo[4,3-a]pyridine Linked 1,4-disubstituted 1,2,3-triazole Derivatives with Amide Functionalities, has been published in a Scopus-indexed journal! 🔬✨ In this study, we synthesized a new series of 1,2,4-triazolo[4,3-a]pyridine-linked 1,4-disubstituted 1,2,3-triazoles with amide linkages using the "Click Chemistry" approach. Utilizing CuSO4 as a catalyst, we achieved cyclization of these compounds, which were then evaluated for antimicrobial potential against eight microbial strains, including Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Enterobacter aerogenes, Bacillus megaterium, Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Aspergillus niger, and Aspergillus flavus. I am thrilled to announce that my first article, a systematic review titled "Unraveling current breakthroughs in Scorodocarpus borneensis phytochemical therapeutics," has been published in Biotechnology Notes (Q3, IF: 1.7). This comprehensive review delves into a detailed overview of the phytochemical constituents of S. borneensis (Kulim fruit) from previous existing studies, shedding light on their chemical composition, bioactivity, and potential applications. 💊 Aspirin, a Pioneering Wonder Drug 🗞️ My #HistoricallySpeaking for The Wall Street Journal ➡️ (Part 2 of 3) #linkinbio Willows contain salicin, a plant hormone with anti-inflammatory, fever-reducing and pain-relieving properties. Experiments with salicin, and its byproduct salicylic acid, began in earnest in Europe in the 1820s. In 1853 Charles Frédéric Gerhardt, a French chemist, discovered how to create acetylsalicylic acid, the active ingredient in aspirin, but then abandoned his research and died young. There is some debate over how aspirin became a blockbuster drug for the German company Bayer. Its official history credits Felix Hoffmann, a Bayer chemist, with synthesizing acetylsalicylic acid in 1897 in the hopes of alleviating his father’s severe rheumatic pain. Bayer patented aspirin in 1899 and by 1918 it had become one of the most widely used drugs in the world. But did Hoffman work alone? Shortly before his death in 1949, Arthur Eichengrün, a Jewish chemist who had spent World War II in a concentration camp, published a paper claiming that Bayer had erased his contribution. In 2000 the BMJ published a study supporting Eichengrün’s claim. Bayer, which became part of the Nazi-backing conglomerate I.G. Farben in 1925, has denied that Eichengrün had a role in the breakthrough. On this day in science Hans von Euler-Chelpin was born In 1929 von Euler-Chelpin was awarded jointly with Arthur Harden, the Nobel Prize for Chemistry for his work on alcoholic fermentation. Euler-Chelpin’s research on enzymes showed that when an enzyme acts on another substance, called a substrate, the chemical linkage between enzyme and substrate is a bond between an acid group and an alkaline group. He particularly studied coenzymes, which act or “coact” with certain enzymes and are necessary for their action. In the case of zymase, an enzyme in yeast, he isolated its coenzyme, cozymase, and determined its chemical structure.
