I wrote this article! It's actually a really interesting story that I didn't have to exaggerate or play up at all!
“Dream Day at the Zoo 2023” was held in Japan’s Adventure World last November. At this event, which hosted children with disabilities and their families, NEC's face recognition was ensured smooth entry. 👉 Here are our thoughts and objectives for this initiative. https://lnkd.in/gtrXGEpx #NEC #NECglobal #facerecognition

Make Way Day is a national initiative aimed at raising awareness about the obstacles people with disabilities face in their everyday lives. Organized by the Disability Federation of Ireland (DFI), this day focuses on promoting accessibility and reminding everyone of the small but significant steps we can take to make our communities more inclusive. It’s easy to overlook how everyday items like wheelie bins, bicycles, and illegally parked cars can become major barriers for those with mobility challenges, people using wheelchairs, those with visual impairments, or parents pushing prams. For these individuals, a seemingly minor obstruction can force dangerous detours into traffic or even prevent them from reaching their destination altogether. On Make Way Day, we ask you to be mindful of where you leave things. Clearing footpaths and public spaces of unnecessary obstacles makes a world of difference to someone who relies on accessible routes. Next time you take out the bin, park your car, or leave your bike, take a moment to ensure it’s not blocking the way for someone else. Let’s all work together to create a community where everyone can move freely and safely. #makewayday24 #wehear #morethanhousing #tenantfirst

🌻Have you seen The Sunflower?🌻 I speak a lot about how we can make spaces and communities more accessible and inclusive. I have written about and spoken about the use and meaning behind The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower. (Links in the comments) I am pleased to see more and more people are sharing their Sunflowers. So, what is The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower? "The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower is a simple tool for you to voluntarily share that you have a disability or condition that may not be immediately apparent – and that you may need a helping hand, understanding, or more time in shops, at work, on transport, or in public spaces." Hidden Disabilities Sunflower 💜 How can I encourage the use of The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower? By raising awareness and fostering empathy, the Sunflower helps create more inclusive environments where individuals with hidden disabilities feel supported and accommodated. Just like we would share our pronouns you can encourage your community members to add a Sunflower to their name or bio. At events, you can also provide lanyards for people who have requested one. These are just a few ways to create safer spaces. Are you using the Sunflower yourself or encouraging others to use it in your community? #community #accessability #HiddenDisabilitiesSunflower #BeSeenWithSunflower #SunflowerLanyard #HiddenDisabilities #MakeTheInvisibleVisible

This year, I'll be saying "no" more to say more yeses. As I move into my birthday weekend, I've been reflecting on the lessons I've learned over the past year and setting goals for the next. Last year, my goal was to be open to everything. I got involved with many great organizations, met amazing people, and started more projects than I can count. Were all of these good things? Yes. But what I discovered is that you can have too many good things. I've learned the importance of saying no to things—even good things—so I can say yes to the things that are closest to my heart. While having a "try everything" mindset exposed me to many opportunities, this year I'm focusing on work that will truly promote inclusive practices, accessibility, and improved outcomes for our students with disabilities and the greater community. I'm still open, but saying no can allow me to say yes to the things aligned to my driving mission. Thank you all for your support in this endeavor to build a kinder, more inclusive world for all the "Tommy's" out there. I will continue to build awareness regarding post-graduate realities for others like him, the impact accessibility can have, and resources to support all. Here's to focusing on the right yeses for another year around the sun! ☀ 🎂 #Inclusion #Accessibility #DisabilityAdvocacy #SpecialEducation #PersonalGrowth #ReflectAndGrow #InclusiveEducation #CommunitySupport #FocusOnWhatMatters #Awareness #Support #NewGoals #Birthday

Do you ever wonder if simple actions can truly make a difference in someone's life? Happy Disability Pride Month! Meet Camille Mitchell (our friend, Cara D. Mitchell's big sister), an inspiring author born with arthrogryposis. Her book, "Please Don't Stare," teaches children and adults about embracing differences and fostering inclusivity. Camille says, "For me, it's about creating a world where everyone feels seen and valued, regardless of their abilities." A parent shared, "My child feels more understood and accepted after reading Camille's book. It has made a significant difference in how they see themselves and others." How to Be a Good Ally: ⚫ Smile and greet people naturally. Examples: Say hello, make eye contact, and use a friendly tone. 🔴 Offer help if someone seems to need it, but always ask first. Examples: "Can I assist you with that?" or "Would you like any help?" ⚪ Learn and share information about disabilities to promote understanding. Examples: Read articles, attend workshops, and share resources with friends. Order Camille’s book "Please Don't Stare" on Amazon: https://lnkd.in/eEsUVSTF Join us in celebrating Disability Pride Month by supporting Camille’s impactful work! ❤️ #aftermarketALLY #DisabilityPrideMonth #Inclusion #Allyship

Disability is not a bad word. How could it be when you see those smiles on these children’s faces? Disability is the perfect word to state a fact. The fact that for someone, an ability has been removed due to an external factor. Out of their control. Out of their choosing. Besides the awesomeness of seeing such an initiative - Wizzybugs being FREE in the UK - it is also a great reminder of how important Disability representation is. Sharing those stories sends such a powerful message! We need more 💜 #Wizzybugs #Disability #DisabilityReality #DisabilityRepresentation #AXSChat #DisabilityStories #Powerful

Folks, let’s help spread the word: these Wizzybugs are FREE if you live in the UK! 🚗 I spotted them over the weekend so this isn’t a sponsored ad or anything, but thanks to Designability young children aged 14 months and up can get their very own Wizzybug completely free of charge. What’s more, they’ll even help with the cost of getting to your child’s appointment and deliver the Wizzybug to your home if you haven’t got a car. Designability is trying to reach more families with disabled children as they’ve got lots of Wizzybugs in their workshops but aren’t getting many applications. Just imagine watching your child explore, have fun, and enhance their own independence by using one of these. Splashing in puddles? Crunching through leaves? Trekking through fields? Bring it on. So please share this far and wide to get more children their very own Wizzybugs! 🚗 https://lnkd.in/eVSf3cE9 🚗 #Inclusion #Disabilities
