Roll Project typically involves replicating a successful SAP implementation from one location to multiple additional locations or subsidiaries within an organization. The goal is to standardize business processes, systems, and data across different locations to achieve consistency and efficiency. Global SAP Roll-out: A multinational corporation with operations in multiple countries decides to standardize its procurement, manufacturing, and sales processes using SAP. After successfully implementing SAP at its headquarters, the corporation initiates a roll-out project to implement SAP in its subsidiary companies across different regions, such as Europe, Asia-Pacific, and the Americas. Regional Roll-out: A retail chain expands its operations into new regions within a country. To ensure consistency in operations and reporting, the company decides to roll out its existing SAP ERP system to the new regional branches. This involves configuring the SAP system to accommodate regional sales tax regulations, local currency requirements, and language preferences. Industry-Specific Roll-out: A pharmaceutical company acquires several smaller biotech firms as part of its growth strategy. To integrate the newly acquired companies into its operations and achieve regulatory compliance, the pharmaceutical company undertakes a roll-out project to implement its SAP-based quality management system across all acquired entities. This involves configuring SAP QM modules to meet industry-specific regulatory requirements and standards. Template-based Roll-out: A manufacturing conglomerate with multiple production facilities adopts a template-based approach for SAP roll-out projects. They develop a standardized SAP template that includes predefined configurations, business processes, and best practices. Whenever a new production facility is established or acquired, the company leverages the SAP template to quickly deploy SAP solutions, ensuring consistency and alignment with corporate standards. Do you really need to review your processes before starting an SAP implementation? It’s a BIG decision, and we’ve been diving deep to find the answer. After talking with 22 SAP consultants, project managers, and industry leaders about their SAP implementation, here’s what we uncovered: 🟢 Why Reviewing Your Processes First Might Be Crucial: ➡ Regulated industries (e.g., pharmaceuticals) rely on strict rules. Skipping a process review could mean trouble later on. ➡ Unclear processes? Mapping them before SAP implementation can set you up for success. ➡ SAP’s standard processes don’t always fit. Process optimization is often necessary before you jump in. 🔴 Why You Might Skip It: ➡ Already have well-documented processes? You might not need a full review. ➡ Time and money are tight. A process review could slow things down, and SAP consultants often handle this anyway. Every company is unique, and there’s no one-size-fits-all answer. But what’s your take? I’ve seen firsthand how skipping the process review can lead to complications later in the implementation. While it might seem like an unnecessary step for teams with well-documented processes, even small inefficiencies can be amplified when integrated into SAP’s framework. Ensuring alignment early on helps avoid costly rework, reduces resistance from teams, and fosters smoother adoption. It's not just about the technical fit, but how well the new system integrates into the current way of working, which is where change management plays a critical role.
