Flexible packaging, or the process of forming polybags, combines high-speed heat seal impacts with high temperatures. Through continual operation at high temperatures, high-speed polyfilm conversion machines rapidly breakdown inferior nonstick PTFE tape, fabric, and belting materials used to produce clean heat seals. The result - shut down of these machines for tape or fabric ‘changeover’ leading to lower productivity and an overall reduction in total bags made. Last week, we achieved an important milestone: we successfully processed PEEK (Polyetheretherketone) with our machine! 🎉 PEEK is one of the most demanding high-performance polymers out there - not only because of its exceptional mechanical properties and resistance to high temperatures but also due to the extreme requirements it places on processing. 🔧⚙️ Processing PEEK via extrusion is a real challenge: High processing temperatures of over 350 °C require precise control and the highest demands on machinery. Sensitive parameters: Even small deviations can significantly affect material quality. Abrasion resistance of equipment: Improper handling of PEEK can cause considerable wear on machine components.
