Greece's historical legacy, strategic location in the Mediterranean, extensive fleet ownership, robust maritime infrastructure, and supportive regulatory environment collectively contribute to its importance in the global maritime, shipping, and bunkering industry. Thus, Peninsula has been active in Athens since 2005. On March 25th, the Greeks celebrate their Independence Day. This day commemorates the start of the war of Independence in 1821 against the Ottoman Empire, which ultimately led to the establishment of modern Greece as an independent state. Haris Koulouris, a fellow colleague from our office in Athens, highlighted this is one of the most, if not the most, important national holidays in Greece, marked by various ceremonies, parades, and cultural events across the country. Greek Independence Day parades have military and civilian participation; and there are also flag-raising ceremonies, and special church services on the 25th March every year. Haris said many Greeks wear traditional costumes, especially children, and decorate streets with flags and banners. Additionally, cultural events such as concerts and exhibitions are common, along with family gatherings featuring traditional dishes. Haris described one that is delicious: bakaliaros and skordalia, which is salted cod accompanied with a garlic dipping sauce. The 25th March is an occasion for Greeks to come together every year to celebrate their history, culture, and national identity, as well as to honour the heroes who fought for their country's freedom. Haris is looking forward to spending this day with his family and watching the fireworks displays to end the day. #oneglobalteam #energyflowing #Greece #Mediterranean #fleet #maritime #regulatory #globalshipping #bunkering #Athens #bakaliaros #skordalia #Greek

Let’s unwrap this festive occasion and discover its global significance #cincodemayo, which translates to the Fifth of May, is a holiday that commemorates the Mexican army’s victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 18621. Despite common misconceptions, it is not Mexico’s Independence Day; rather, it marks a military triumph where the Mexican forces, under General Ignacio Zaragoza, defeated a larger and better-equipped French army. In Mexico, Cinco de Mayo is observed with ceremonial events like military parades or battle reenactments, in the city of Puebla where the historic battle took place. However, it is not a major national #holiday Today, Cinco de Mayo is marked by festivities that include parades, music, and dancing. It’s a reminder that every culture has its tales of heroism and unity. Celebrating Cinco de Mayo is a way to connect with the global community, to share in the joy of another culture’s pride. Let's not forget that it’s a perfect opportunity to learn, connect, and grow. Premiumreal invites you to be part of a community that values cultural exchange and global connections. Here is an interesting map circa 1750 that shows the territories controlled by France, Great Britain and Spain. Note the immense territory under the control of France, recognized as New France and generally consisting of the colonies of Canada, French Acadia, Louisiana and the "Pays d'en Hauts" (ie Upper Country). In terms of today's borders, this territory extended as far as the Gulf of Mexico to the south, Cape Breton Island to the east, and parts of Manitoba/Saskatchewan to the west. This obviously changed following the Seven Years' War in 1763 and this great North American kingdom of France was ceded to Great Britain (except the islands of St. Pierre and Miquelon).
