Diversity. Cultural Competence. Inclusion. These words are splashed all over the websites of hospitals, medical schools, and health systems. But how successful is the healthcare industry when it comes to clinician diversity? This week, we look at why a diverse staff - that means representation across ethnicity, disability, class, gender, race, and sexual orientation – is good for patients. We also explore how mentorship, intentional recruiting, pipeline programs, and other practices can help every healthcare workplace reap the benefits of a more diverse and intersectional team. https://lnkd.in/gUJUq2gq #dei #healthcarestaffing #diversitymatters #cliniciandiversity #patientexperience

Being a physician mom is tough. This article shares a powerful message and articulates struggles/feelings I have always experienced in my career. This is also why one of my biggest accomplishments has been being able to educate and empower women across the country via Johnson and Johnson. I take great joy in providing gratifying and flexible jobs for so many amazing women physicians and midlevels, giving them complete autonomy over their schedules (and their outfits!). https://lnkd.in/e5FUJgB4

Women are burning out at higher rates than men across industries - this isn't an isolated problem within the medical industry. It's unacceptable in every industry, but especially scary in the medical field, when studies show patients of female surgeons see better outcomes. We are at risk of losing so many incredibly talented women in high-stress careers because of cultural failures. Every company should have an eye on burnout and be working to combat the dynamics that put women at risk. #burnout #burnoutprevention #employeestress #workplaceculture #womenatwork https://lnkd.in/gu_GxUmd

I am sharing this bcoz I tolerate this everyday in clinic and I want everyone to suggest me how to cope with this.. Misbehavior from patients towards young female dentists can be a significant issue, impacting their professional environment and mental well-being. This issue reflects broader societal attitudes and gender biases that persist in many areas. The types of misbehavior can vary, and the implications can be profound for the young professionals involved. 1.Gender Bias and Disrespect: Some patients may doubt the competence of young female dentists solely based on their gender and age, exhibiting condescending attitudes or questioning their expertise more rigorously than they would with male dentists. 2.Intimidation and Aggression : Young female dentists might encounter aggressive behavior from patients who attempt to intimidate them, undermining their authority and creating a hostile work environment. 4.Microaggressions : These are subtle, often unintentional, comments or actions that convey demeaning messages. Examples include assuming the female dentist is a nurse or questioning their decisions more frequently than those of their male counterparts. Impact on Young Female Dentists 1. Mental Health: Experiencing repeated misbehavior can lead to stress, anxiety, and a decrease in job satisfaction. It can affect their mental health and overall well-being, potentially leading to burnout. 2. Professional Confidence : Persistent disrespect or harassment can erode a young female dentist's confidence in her professional abilities, affecting her performance and career progression Addressing patient misbehavior towards young female dentists requires a multifaceted approach, involving institutional support, societal change, and personal resilience. By fostering a culture of respect and equality, the dental profession can ensure that all practitioners, regardless of gender or age, can work in a safe and supportive environment. #work #dentistry #motivation #female dentists

What another great example of what genU is enabling. By collaborating with organisations such as St. John of God Hospital Geelong we are creating genuine career opportunities for people living with disabilities. Outstanding outcomes for not only individuals, and organisations looking to build their workforce in a variety of ways, but importantly supporting our communities. #buildinginclusivecommunities #disability #inclusivecommunities #employment #recruitment #disabilitysupport
Laura’s new job at Geelong’s St John of God Hospital is the result of a stronger focus on inclusion that is helping build capacity, skills and paid employment opportunities for young people with disability. Through a collaboration with the genU Employment Pathways team, the hospital has recently recruited and onboarded two people with disability, with more placements possible. “Part of our mission at St John of God is to provide employment to people from all different walks of life and I had seen a friend’s son who has a disability build confidence with paid employment,” Rose Lyall, Surgical Services Coordinator said.
