Implementation of AI will be playing a vital role in decarbonizing buildings, but AI has its own footprint. AI's energy requirement is growing by 26%- 36% every year. By 2028, AI could be using more power than the entire country of Iceland¹ used in 2021. Who will compensate for that emission? We need #carbon_negative solutions to reach real net zero.   As demonstrated by NYSERDA, smart building technologies can reduce energy consumption and emissions. The Yonkers² Honda Service Center saved 370,783 kWh of energys, and roughly $20,000 in cost, in their 48,500-sft facility. A portfolio of buildings across New York (total area of 2.95 million sft), reduced energy use by 7.2% by installing real time energy management systems. Building-integrated carbon capture (BICC) technology presents exciting avenues for further decarbonization. It reduces emissons, saves cost, makes the building capture CO2 directly from the air and can reach truly net zero.
