At TAI Engineering, we are incredibly proud of our talented women engineers who contribute significantly to our projects and innovations every day. As we celebrate Women Engineers Week, we recognize the vital role that women play in shaping the future of engineering. The growth of women in engineering has been remarkable. Currently, women make up approximately 16% of professionals in architecture and engineering occupations in the US. Although this is a positive trend, there is still much work to be done to achieve gender parity in our field (Fictiv) (Denken). Globally, women now represent 29% of the STEM workforce, with over one million women working in STEM occupations (IET - Home). In engineering roles specifically, the number of women has increased from 36,734 to over 62,000 in the past seven years (Stem Women). Despite these advancements, women still face challenges in representation, particularly in leadership roles. We believe that diverse perspectives lead to better decision-making, enhanced creativity, and more innovative solutions. By fostering an inclusive environment, we aim to inspire the next generation of women engineers to break barriers and lead the way in technological advancements. ✨ Today marks the start of our Women in Engineering themed week over on our website! ✨ Throughout the entirety of this week - to tie in with International Women in Engineering Day - The Engineer UK is focusing on the industry’s ongoing efforts to close the gender gap and celebrating the role played by female engineers. "Along with the need to inspire more young people to consider a career in engineering, attracting more women into the profession remains one of industry’s most enduring and intractable skills challenges," commented Jon Excell, editor and publisher of The Engineer. "The equation is a simple one: in the face of a widening skills gap, half of the population are still woefully underrepresented in the UK’s engineering workforce. "Despite the progress, there’s still much to do: from removing some of the bottlenecks preventing or deterring women from re-entering the workplace after maternity leave to understanding and addressing some of the societal issues that see girls - who massively outperform boys in STEM subjects at GCSE level - move away from physical sciences as they go into A-levels. "There are many practical measures and interventions that can help shift the dial, but alongside this it’s vital that we continue to hammer away at the stereotypes, to celebrate the achievements of women engineers and remind women and girls of the incredible opportunities available to them, which is why events like this month’s International Women in Engineering Day (23rd June) are so important." It’s National Engineering Week, and today’s theme is “Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day”. In 2023, women made up only 14% of the global engineering workforce. That gap is steadily closing, figures over the years indicate an increase in the percentage of women employed in engineering worldwide. We’ve come a long way, but have a long way to go. 🌟 Celebrating International Women in Engineering Day! 🌟 Today (23 June) we honour International Women in Engineering Day (INWED), a day dedicated to recognising the contributions of women engineers around the world. Established by the Women's Engineering Society in the UK in 2014 to mark its 95th anniversary, this special day has grown into a global celebration of the achievements and impact of women in the engineering field. At Doncasters we are committed to increasing the percentage of female employees in a historically male-dominated industry. While we acknowledge that there is still a long way to go, we are dedicated to creating an inclusive environment where women can thrive and succeed. In 2023 we had a 2.4% reduction in the UK Median Gender Pay Gap from 2022 - 0.6% lower than UK National Gender Pay Gap. Did you know only 14% of engineers in the industry are women? And 40% of women who receive an engineering degree either leave the field or never enter it at all? Studies have shown that many women leave the industry because of the work environment. I know this post just missed women's history month, but I am hopeful for future generations of women in engineering. Even though our numbers are rising slowly, I do believe that the culture in engineering is slowly changing with it. While there are still great disparities between genders in engineering (median salary of women in engineering is still $14,000 less than their male counterparts), I have true faith in this generation to be a source of change for ourselves and future generations. https://lnkd.in/gWEzQDvA

In engineering, women are in the minority at just 16.5% of the workforce. In fact, gender disparity is seen throughout all educational pathways into engineering. Of the 262 Engineering End Point Assessments that our team of assessors have carried out over the past 12 months or so, only 9 have been female candidates. So, today, on International Women in Engineering Day, a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women, we stand united in our belief that more should be done to highlight the opportunities for women in engineering as a challenging and rewarding career. But how can we target women into engineering? Showcasing historical and current roles of responsibility and experiences may be part of the answer – but what else should we be doing?
