While Shein's €200M circular fund may seem insufficient given the scale of fast fashion's environmental impact, dismissing it as irrelevant overlooks several crucial factors: 𝘾𝙖𝙩𝙖𝙡𝙮𝙩𝙞𝙘 𝙥𝙤𝙩𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙖𝙡: This initiative could inspire other companies to create similar or larger funds, potentially sparking a more significant industry-wide movement towards sustainability. 𝙄𝙣𝙣𝙤𝙫𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙨𝙥𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙗𝙤𝙖𝙧𝙙: The fund may support innovative projects or technologies that, while small now, could be scaled up to create substantial impact in the future. 𝘼𝙬𝙖𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙧𝙖𝙞𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙜: Even if partly motivated by PR, the fund draws much-needed attention to circularity issues in fashion, potentially influencing consumer behavior and industry practices. 𝙎𝙩𝙚𝙥𝙥𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙨𝙩𝙤𝙣𝙚: This fund represents a concrete step that can be built upon, potentially leading to more substantial commitments as the company learns and adapts. 𝙇𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙤𝙥𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙮: The initiatives funded could provide valuable insights into effective circular economy strategies, benefiting the wider industry. We must resist the urge to disregard efforts simply because the numbers initially disappoint. Sustainability is a complex challenge that requires more than just throwing money at the problem. These initiatives, even if imperfect, can drive innovation, raise awareness, and create ripple effects throughout the industry. By supporting and critically engaging with such efforts, rather than dismissing them outright, we encourage companies to take those crucial first steps towards meaningful change. SHIEN may have failed here, but that doesn’t mean others must do that same. Remember, transforming an industry doesn't happen overnight. Every initiative, no matter its size, has the potential to contribute to the larger goal of a more sustainable fashion ecosystem. #Sustainability #Greenwashing #ClimateAction #Shein

You are correct Tai Aracen Ⓢ If all industry, particularly the fashion industry were 100% circular, it would be time to be pointing the finger at SHEIN, which personally I dislike because of all sorts of irregular practices in which they indulge. HOWEVER industry as a whole is 93% NON-CIRCULAR. As you say the beginnings of circularity must start somewhere. Many times when I speak/seek to collaborate with people I preface my observations with 'So long as we see this as a transition and not an end point ...' this is fine. If we understand we are on a journey and we are truly wanting and are putting into place something to move to somewhere better, we are OK and we can work together to get there. If we are self-satisfied that we have arrived, we are burying our heads in the sand and going backwards. Do you agree?
