The ones whose laugh is a symphony of hyena and donkey, the brave souls who wear Hawaiian shirts to buttoned-up business meetings, and those who'd pick underwater basket weaving as a career over sitting in a cubicle. But let's be real: being a misfit isn't always a walk in the park. It's like being a mouse courageously eyeballing a conga line of elephants. The comfort of blending in is undeniably alluring. I’D LOVE TO DO YOUR JOB! If I had a £ for every time I’ve been told that, well, let’s just say that I wouldn’t need to be ironing bedclothes on a Monday evening! Staging might look glamorous and easy when you see all those sexy ‘after’ shots but the reality that goes along with the seemingly instant transformation is much more arduous than most people realise. Buying stock, collecting stock, waiting for deliveries. Sorting stock, storing stock, packing stock Washing. Ironing and more storing, sorting and packing Loading vans, unloading vans, carrying beds upstairs Shifting sofas, chairs, dining tables And then doing it all again in reverse. Then there is the pitching for business (some you win, some you don’t) and the people who waste your time because they think you should be doing all of it for nothing. It’s honestly not for the faint-hearted. I love what I do but it is extremely demanding work. It’s long, often backbreaking hours of time spent away from my kids. In today's #FridayFunday episode of "Survivor: Job Market," where the challenges of job seekers are many, and the rewards are ... pending. I'd like to debunk a myth that likes to rear it's ugly head from time to time. The "fun" claim that there are evil ATS Bots who reject your resume. According to many "coaches" it is the Applicant versus the ATS. And more importantly, that you need an "ATS Compliant Resume" in order to game the system and get past those evil bots who are gatekeepers to the hiring process. They claim your worth is determined not by your skills or experiences, but by how many times you can sensibly fit the word "synergy" into your resume. FALSE - and the only Evil ATS Bot I know of is the one depicted in designs from Amy (https://lnkd.in/gXdFYJ8i). Most of these claims come from individuals who have never worked as part of a corporate recruitment team, or, that are in the market to sell you job search services. While there are ways to setup knockout questions that can reject your application based on how you answer a series of eligibility/requirement questions, those questions are written by humans. And those humans add them to ensure applicants meet basic/minimum qualifications of a position before being reviewed. And then that human actually reviews your resume, not an evil ATS bot. If you see this claim forget it, and/or file it away in the part of your brain that serves as your deleted items folder. We're all in this together. Those living the recruiting life are here to support you, the job seeker, and it takes both sides partnering together to get through a hiring process. Don't waste your time or money on someone that is trying to convince you that you need to beat the bots. To all those searching, keep your spirits high, your resume updated, and your sense of humor intact as, unfortunately, you have to navigate a lot of bad advice. May your applications be seen (by humans), your interviews be meaningful, you receive guidance from those who understand recruitment, and your offers be plentiful.
