Our client the American Theatre Wing is the founder and co-presenter of the Tony Awards. The Wing also works year-round supporting creatives--and not just professionals. One of its signature programs is the Andrew Lloyd Webber Initiative, which provides grants to under-resourced schools in the U.S. and individual scholarships for afterschool and summer training programs and students pursuing theatre in college. The Wing’s President and CEO Heather A. Hitchens told EdSource: "This is such a meaningful initiative for us at the Wing. From repairing an auditorium’s audio system so that productions can once again be amplified, to creating set-design apprenticeships between theatre companies and schools, the needs are specific and varied, and the results are real. Directly due to the programs of the Andrew Lloyd Webber Initiative, more theatre and art is created by students who might not otherwise have this opportunity. Their education is being enhanced, as is the pipeline to careers in the theatre industry,” #theatre #artists #creative #entertainmentindustry #education #ceo #leadership #schools #broadway #production #culture #television #performance #broadcasting #communications #collegesanduniversities #strategiccommunications #equity

Having honest conversations about the state of arts and culture in a city like Milwaukee can be challenging, but they are essential. This article touches on an issue many of us in the community have known for years: diversity is crucial for driving culture forward. When organizations lack diversity—whether in race, gender, experience, or neural diversity—not only does the internal culture suffer, but so does the bottom line. It's important to note that diversity shouldn't just be a priority at the entry-level. True progress happens when it travels all the way up to the board level. Wealthy board members alone do not determine the success of an organization—building meaningful relationships within the community does. To thrive, organizations need leadership that reflects the communities they serve, ensuring diverse voices are part of the decision-making process. Diversity is not just an option—it’s a necessity for long-term growth and impact.
Following the publication of a story by Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel summer intern Jane Parks a month earlier, Bruce Murphy of Urban Milwaukee and Jimmy Gutierrez of WUWM released two similarly substantive pieces this week. These articles, including Tyanna Clayton-Mallett's poignant testimony, significantly reshape the public record and more accurately disclose the beliefs and strategies driving decisions and policy-making in Milwaukee's arts and culture sector.

Consultant to production co’s & businesses in the Ad industry I EP I NED I Mentor I Pitch 100 Superwoman I Creative Circle Gold Judge
The harsh reality of the barriers to ‘making it’ in the TV / Film / Media industry if you don’t have the means to support yourself in the early stages of your career means more and more people from working class backgrounds are turning their backs on the creative industries, and who can blame them. There’s so much appetite amongst production people to address this but with budgets squeezed and generally less work out there the ability to take on new talent and pay and support them appropriately is getting harder and harder. Fundamentally what is needed is more investment from govt and industry bodies but we all know what the current government feels about the creative industries - just look at the cuts happening across higher education for humanities subjects.
Most working class kids wouldn't even consider traditional film / TV as a career; if they do get a toe in the door, entry level salaries mean it's a real struggle to survive without additional financial support. The huge amount of 'traineeships' doesn't address the fundamental challenges to providing access. They tantalise, then leave the youngsters hanging as the next class of trainees take their place on set. A total rethink is required.
