Ever wonder what makes a mentor truly great? More importantly, what makes a great female mentor? When it comes to female mentorship, not many of us can honestly say that they have had a pleasure and a privilege to be guided by truly inspiring women- mentors. So what makes a great female mentor? ✨️They help us! ✨️Teach us! ✨️And cheer for us! They have been through a lot and have lots to share. They understand us, give us advice without prejudice, and most importantly, they are not jealous of our success. A great female mentor embodies strength, wisdom, and grace! But, there is a problem. We don't have enough women mentors. Particularly in business. Women in business bring different experiences, and they are not afraid to challenge the status quo. This day last week was International Mentoring Day and this post was created to recognise the importance of mentoring and building your network. Being part of Liberty IT Women in Tech's mentoring circle has been an amazing experience. As a group of different women, we approach topics such as personal brand and leadership styles in a safe and collaborative environment where we not only get to hear from people similar to ourselves but also get to hear alternative experiences and preferences. The mentoring circles have not only allowed me to meet other women who I wouldn't have otherwise done so, but also allowed me to explore personal development topics that I may not have done otherwise. Mentorship is a valuable way to learn and grow. I encourage anyone thinking of either becoming a mentor or mentee to go for it as you never know what you may learn or what might come of it. While I have only been a mentee so far in my career, I look forward to also becoming a mentor someday. For any company thinking about introducing mentorship for the employees, it's an invaluable source of growth and collaboration that can be difficult to obtain by other means.
