Teaching my client how to land a director role at Nvdia is fun!
But it works anywhere! He’s how to go shopping for director roles…
First, you need to know what kind of director you want to be. In which domain?
Next, you need to figure out who the hiring manager for that role would be.
↳ If you want to be a director, you’re looking at VPs and senior executive directors.
At this point, most people would reach out to these hiring managers… But you actually want to make them the last you’ll reach out to.
Why?
These are very important and busy people. If some random person reaches out to them, they won’t be likely to respond.
↳ So you want to reach out to people that are a little lower on the or chart.
↳ Senior managers and lower-level directors.
You’ll find a lot of value in talking to your peers.
In addition, most of these peers are most likely connected to VPs.
So when the day comes for you to reach out to VPs, they’ll see that you have mutual connections at their company.
✔️ They’ll be far more likely to connect.
✔️ And chat.
And to be able to talk to your future manager is huge leap toward your director role!
