#Adrenoleukodystrophy #ALD #Genomics Here is an interesting paper currently being researched on ALD (Adrenoleukodystrophy) disease: The study titled "Abcd1 deficiency accelerates cuprizone-induced oligodendrocyte loss and axonopathy in a demyelinating mouse model of X-linked adrenoleukodystrophy" investigates the impact of ABCD1 deficiency on demyelination and neurological damage using a cuprizone mouse model. It found that while ABCD1 deficiency accelerates oligodendrocyte loss and axonal damage, it does not significantly affect the microglial or astrocyte function in myelin clearance or remyelination. This study highlights the role of ABCD1 in exacerbating demyelination but also shows that remyelination potential remains intact despite the genetic deficiency. Yet another exciting publication by our users! Nikolaos Louros & his team from University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center used FIDA to advance the understanding of tau protein, a key player in #Alzheimer 's and other neurodegenerative diseases. They used FIDA to characterize novel anti-tau antibodies. FIDA allowed us to precisely measure the binding affinity of these antibodies to monomeric tau, enabling the identification of those with high selectivity for pathological tau aggregates. Next Thursday (16 May), Jordy Kocken will defend the thesis ‘Molecular Directors: Non-Coding RNA and Extracellular Vesicles in Right Ventricle Remodeling’ at 10.00h @ Maastricht University. ➡️ Cardiovascular disease is a leading cause of death worldwide, and right ventricular failure is a major contributor. Despite this, the right ventricle has often been overlooked in research and treatment. However, over the past two decades, there has been increasing attention on the right ventricle due to the lack of available therapies. This dissertation focuses on studying a specific RNA molecule found in the diseased right ventricle. Surprisingly, when this RNA was targeted with medication in animal studies, the mice became even sicker. Further investigation revealed that the RNA interacts with a protein crucial for healthy blood vessel formation. Another aspect of the study involved developing a method to culture right ventricular tissue slices, which allowed for the examination of secreted vesicles and their contents. This technique provides a valuable tool for studying the right ventricle and potentially identifying new biomarkers or therapies. Epigenetics Update – “Multiomics profiling of mouse polycystic kidney disease progression at a single-cell resolution” https://bit.ly/3UgiaQ1 We generated a single-nucleus multiomic atlas to characterize cell-type-specific molecular changes in a mouse polycystic kidney disease (PKD) model during disease progression. By comparatively analyzing with a human PKD dataset we previously generated, we identified disease-specific cell states that may contribute to cystogenesis and cyst growth. Our analysis sheds light on the role of failed-repair epithelia in cyst growth as well as a shared cyst lining cell marker GPRC5A in human and mouse PKD.
