“We can do hard things” -Glennon Doyle A month at my new job has already gone by, and I’ve had the pleasure of learning so much about how to do this job. Two skills of mine that have been sharpened this month is learning how to do a job very quickly and adaptability. I had a week of training and a week of shadowing before starting this job. A job that is a complete departure from what I studied in college. So despite the 2 weeks of training, I was still walking into the unknown. I got to learn how to use several different platforms, how to present information that was not covered in training, how to manage a classroom, and how to interact with 3 year olds 😂. While taking in this information, I also had to learn how to complete all of the important “new to the country” tasks that laid ahead of me. Thankfully, I had the help of my supervisors through every step. I had to adapt to a lot and it’s been hard, but it’s also been a wonderful month. I am curious to see how this next month will go. #adapt #grow #lifetimelearner

Here at Insite Group, we're celebrating National Apprenticeship Week 2024, and let's just say, the excitement is contagious! Especially for our very own Dylan Thomson, a third-year apprentice who recently sat through his own personal hell of being interviewed by our Gerry Campbell. Walking into the interview room, Dylan resembled a freshly painted wall: white-knuckled and wide-eyed. You could practically hear the nervous laughter echoing in his head. But hey, that's the beauty of apprenticeships – they turn wide-eyed rookies into seasoned (and hopefully door-hanging) professionals! Jokes aside, Dylan Thomson's journey as an apprentice has been nothing short of impressive. Managing Director, Scott McMillan, puts it perfectly: "Dylan Thomson's a fantastic example of the talent apprenticeships can bring. He started with raw enthusiasm, and through hard work and mentorship, he's become a valuable asset to our team." Now, Dylan may have sweated through his shirt during the interview (we blame the air conditioning, not the questions!), but his dedication and eagerness shine brighter than a thousand halogen spotlights (sorry). Here at Insite Group, we're incredibly proud to have Dylan on board, and we can't wait to see what the future holds for this future star! As a small business, we understand the importance and value of providing hands-on learning experiences to the younger generation. Work experience is not just about gaining skills or ticking off requirements; it's an invaluable opportunity for young minds like Armando to discover their passions, build confidence, and gain real-world insights into what working life entails. However, finding the time to mentor and guide a work experience student can be a challenge for a small business like ours, with its unique pressures and time constraints. Yet, we believe in the power of giving back and investing in the future. The pleasure of having Armando with us, sharing our knowledge and passion for what we do, far outweighs any challenges. We also understand that Derby College faces significant hurdles in securing placements for their students. There seems to be a lack of uptake from other local businesses, which is disheartening. We urge other businesses to consider the benefits of offering work placements. It's not just about shaping the future of our industry, but also about contributing to the community and fostering the next generation of talent.
