In our post-pandemic work culture, team building is a higher priority than ever. In a 2023 survey by Pew Research, 53% of employees stated that working remotely affects their ability to feel connected with their coworkers. This highlights the challenge of nurturing a strong team culture virtually. Just like with in-person teams, remote team building starts with the manager. Some of the ways you can facilitate remote team building with your employees include: - Prioritizing one-on-one communication to strengthen your relationship with your employees. - Acknowledging employee accomplishments to help them feel valued. - Encouraging face time on video calls to create a social environment. For obvious reasons remote/hybrid work is a welcomed new reality for many - cost efficiency, convenience, flexibility, etc.. But for managers, remote work offers new challenges. Creating a culture and fostering connections among dispersed teams is crucial for enhancing job performance, creativity, collaboration, and employee retention. Well-designed team-building activities are key tools for nurturing these relationships. The following HBR article below suggests various strategies for remote, hybrid, and in-person teams: - Remote Teams: Structured conversations around team goals, using conversation cards, informal chats, virtual communication tools, simulation games, and periodic in-person gatherings like “team weeks” can bridge the distance. - Hybrid Teams: Creating fun rituals, distributing team-branded swag, sharing personal origin stories, conducting regular pulse checks, and attending conferences together help maintain connection despite physical separation. - In-Person Teams: Activities like regular team lunches, expertise exchanges, physical challenges, creative workshops, community service, and off-site retreats strengthen in-office team bonds. Successful team-building requires careful planning, commitment, and a genuine interest in understanding team dynamics. Activities should be tailored to the team's needs and preferences, with a focus on inclusivity and engagement. Managers play a crucial role in setting the tone and ensuring these activities are viewed as valuable rather than distractions from work. Regular evaluation and adaptation of team-building strategies are necessary to maintain a positive, cohesive team culture.

Training Leaders and Managers to Build Cohesive Teams through Empowering Leadership, Meaningful Communication, and Purpose-Driven Teams. Author of Be THAT Leader. Business Coach (PCC) Leadership Trainer & Consultant
In an era where remote work and virtual collaboration are increasingly common, intentional efforts to create a sense of community and belonging are essential for maintaining a cohesive and thriving team. By promoting open communication, cultivating an inclusive culture, and facilitating social connections, leaders and managers can create a workplace where everyone feels valued, supported, and part of a collective effort towards shared goals. Here are three tips for leaders and managers to help team members foster a sense of belonging and connection: Tip 1: Promote Open Communication and Collaboration Encourage an environment where team members feel comfortable sharing their ideas, opinions, and concerns. Foster open communication channels, such as regular team meetings, one-on-one check-ins, and virtual collaboration spaces. Celebrate diverse perspectives and actively listen to everyone's contributions, making them feel valued and respected. Tip 2: Cultivate a Supportive and Inclusive Culture Embrace diversity and create an inclusive workplace where everyone feels welcomed and accepted, regardless of their background, identity, or beliefs. Provide opportunities for team members to learn about and appreciate different cultures, experiences, and perspectives. Establish clear policies against discrimination and harassment, and lead by example in promoting respect and understanding. Tip 3: Facilitate Team-Building Activities and Social Connections Organize team-building activities, virtual or in-person, that allow team members to interact and bond outside of work-related tasks. These activities can range from team lunches or happy hours to volunteering opportunities or recreational events. Encourage social connections by creating spaces for casual conversations and sharing personal interests or experiences. #EmployeeEngagement #CompanyCulture #WorkplaceCommunity #InclusiveWorkplace #TeamBuilding #PositiveWorkEnvironment #WorkplaceWellbeing #EmployeeAdvocacy #EmployeeBranding #SocialWorkplace #WorkplaceInclusion #WorkplaceBelonging

Since Outwitly hired its first employee, fostering a strong sense of unity and collaboration has been at the core of our company culture. That's why we've prioritized holding weekly all-team meetings, no matter how much our team grows. Here are 3 reasons why we swear by these touchpoints, especially as a 100% remote company: 1️⃣ Alignment: Our weekly meetings ensure that everyone is on the same page about what projects are in progress, what milestones we've achieved, and what challenges we're facing. This alignment keeps us moving forward together toward our common goals. 2️⃣ Connection: In a remote setting, it's easy for team members to feel isolated. Our weekly meetings provide a valuable opportunity for us to connect face-to-face, share updates, celebrate wins, and strengthen our bonds as a team. 3️⃣ Collaboration: Collaboration is the heartbeat of our company, and our weekly touchpoints facilitate open communication and idea-sharing among team members. Whether brainstorming new initiatives or problem-solving together, these meetings foster a culture of collaboration that drives innovation and success. Our commitment to weekly all-team meetings remains unwavering because we know staying connected and aligned is key! We'd love to hear about how you prioritize team collaboration if you work for a remote company. Let's chat in the comments! . . . #RemoteWork #TeamCollaboration #CompanyCulture

I committed to exploring the impact of remote work and fostering virtual team culture daily 6 months ago. (Without a specific expertise in remote work management) → Discovered that maintaining consistent communication is key to team cohesion. → Implemented virtual coffee breaks and casual check-ins to boost morale. → Encouraged team members to share personal stories and achievements, making the digital workspace feel more personable. → Leveraged collaborative tools like Slack and Trello to streamline workflow. → Noticed a significant improvement in employee satisfaction and productivity. Not 100%, but what a wild journey. I'm convinced fostering a strong virtual team culture makes any leader better #RemoteWork #VirtualTeamCulture #TeamCohesion #EmployeeEngagement #Communication #Productivity #WorkplaceWellbeing #LeadershipDevelopment #Collaboration #WorkFromHome #CompanyCulture

Why Seeing Your Team Matters?? In today's digital age, virtual meetings and collaboration tools like Teams have become indispensable for remote work. However, the importance of face-to-face interaction cannot be overstated. Here's why seeing your team and working together in person is crucial: - 🤝 Establish a cohesive workplace culture by fortifying team bonding and trust via in-person interactions. - 💡 Spark creativity and innovation during brainstorming sessions to generate original concepts and answers for corporate problems. - ⏰ Ensure timely project execution and alignment by accelerating decision-making processes through rapid feedback and real-time discussions. - 😊 Foster a supportive workplace culture and raise staff morale by encouraging bonding and sharing experiences. -🚀 Prioritise in-person meeting chances to drive overall team success, which benefits both the organisation and personnel.

Are you ready to support team building in a hybrid office environment? It’s no surprise that teams are more productive when people get on well, have good work-life balance, and are happy and fulfilled in their work. Casual and social communication is crucial when it comes to team building. But with remote and hybrid working becoming more and more common, we’re hardly likely to bump into each other for a chat. So how on earth do we recreate those unforced connections that come from the traditional office setup? Read our blog on Next-gen leadership: Adapting to the hybrid team dynamic https://bit.ly/49dyF5n Here are 5 tips to increase team bonding: ➡️ Be flexible and curious. Build self-awareness around the team to help everyone understand and respect how they work best in a team environment. ➡️Find ways for employees to let their "hair down". If virtual activities like trivia games or lunch-and-learns feel a bit cheesy to your team, ask them for feedback regarding activities to increase bonding. ➡️Have casual daily catch-ups. These can be as little as 15 minutes every day, but it helps teams to keep chatting informally. ➡️ Create 'mini' teams within a team. Smaller breakaway groups could help employees to work together more closely and gives team members time to get to know each other and connect on a personal level. ➡️ Celebrate your team. Acknowledge and recognise your employees' work and efforts in the company. Be conscious that not everyone will have the same "wins" and discuss this with your team. Team Work and Team Building Series – 2/6 🌟 Boost Morale with Creative Team Building Activities The Big Picture: • Traditional team building can be monotonous. Many employees dread repetitive team building exercises that feel like just another task rather than an engaging experience. • Innovative activities can re-energize your team and build stronger bonds. Unique and creative activities capture your team's interest and foster a sense of excitement and anticipation. Pain Points: • Boredom with repetitive activities. Repeatedly doing the same activities can lead to disengagement and lack of enthusiasm. • Difficulty engaging remote teams. With the rise of remote work, finding ways to include everyone in team building can be challenging. • Lack of participation and enthusiasm. If the activities aren’t interesting, team members might not participate fully, reducing the effectiveness of the exercise. Solutions: • Try virtual escape rooms or online trivia for remote teams. These activities are fun, engaging, and can be done from anywhere, ensuring remote employees feel included. • Organize outdoor adventure activities like scavenger hunts. These provide a break from the usual office environment and encourage teamwork in a fun and interactive way. • Host creative workshops, like cooking or painting classes. These activities allow team members to explore new skills and hobbies together, fostering creativity and collaboration. "Think of team building as a recipe; each new activity adds a unique flavor to your team dynamics." Just as a recipe becomes more delicious with varied ingredients, your team grows stronger with diverse activities. “The strength of the team is each individual member. The strength of each member is the team.” – Phil Jackson This highlights the mutual dependence and the strength that comes from unity in diversity. Which team building activity are you excited to try? If you wish to, please get in touch with me for a fun filled team building session without compromising on the deeper learnings. Share your views!
