All dogs deserve love. 🥹 It’s #NationalPitbullAwarenessDay and we want to set the record straight about these amazing dogs—and the false narratives that have cast them in a negative light for far too long. Pit bulls are some of the most loyal, loving, and goofy dogs you’ll ever meet. So why are they so often labeled as aggressive or dangerous? The answer isn’t in the breed—it’s how they're portrayed that have shaped this misleading image. Here’s the reality: Pit bulls are not inherently aggressive. Pit bulls do not have “lock jaw”. Pit bulls aren’t unpredictable. These dogs have long been the victims of media sensationalism, where isolated incidents are highlighted and used to paint the entire breed with one broad brush. This fearmongering has led to harmful stereotypes and breed-specific legislation that punishes dogs based on their appearance, not their behavior. So why the bad reputation? Historically, pit bulls were bred for strength and, sadly, were exploited for cruel purposes like dog fighting. But what’s often left out of the conversation is that pit bulls were also once considered “America’s Nanny Dog” for their gentle and protective nature around children. Their reputation shifted not because of who they are, but because of how they were used by humans. If you’ve shared your life with a pitty, you know just how special they are. Share a photo of your pit bull in the comments and let’s fill this space with love for these incredible dogs! And if you’re looking to add a lovable pup to your family, don't overlook a dog just based on breed, we have some amazing pit bulls just waiting for someone to choose them. 🤍
