Talking Stick Resort's 21st annual Toy Drive Poker Tournament was a success, thanks to the amazing generosity of our poker community. 🎁🃏 Hundreds of toys were donated by players, bringing the holiday joy to children in our Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community. Thank you to our players, the Salt-River Pima Maricopa Indian Community, our poker team members, the promotions team and all others who helped make today a success. We’re proud to be part of this heartwarming yearly initiative!

Community partners are so critical to advancing our work. Something I have found so inspiring about Birds for Sofia is how personal each donation is and how our donors can know exactly who and what their donation went to and how powerful the impact of their money can be. Here are some cool stats to end the year out: 1. We have helped over 270 kids from Ukraine and across Europe this year! 2. We have helped 8 children and their families resettle to the US from Ukraine to get life-saving treatment. The cost for treatment for these 8 kids in Europe would have been over $16.8 million out of pocket. We have only spent just over $90k here in the US for all 8 kids combined. 3. The mortality rate for these 8 kids is 95% before age 2. But with this treatment, they can live normal, happy, healthy lives. 4. Just in Q4 2023, the medication, equipment, and rehabilitation we have provided in our Aid to Ukraine program has added over 159 years of life to these kids.
Zions Bank donated $50,000 to Birds for Sofia! We were able to sit down with their team last week and talk about all the good that has been accomplished this year alongside the excitement of what 2024 will bring. More has already been done than what was ever imagined possible, but we are still looking at how we can help at an even higher scale. We are so grateful for their partnership and their support of kids internationally who need life-saving medical treatment. Thank you Zions and your incredible team for your investment in community!

SUMMARY OF 2023 AND PLANS FOR 2024 So much has happened in 2023! Our organization has reached new heights and started operating even more actively. Let's take a moment to recall our past year in numbers! 6 COLLABORATIVE POSTS. One of them was with the volunteer NGO "Project R.I.D.," with whom we managed to create unique shoppers featuring various dialects of Ukraine. 5 WORKSHOPS. We hosted five wonderful workshops, one of which took place at the "Lokalist" festival. 4 MAJOR ORDERS. In 2023, we had four large orders of more than ten units each: one was for creating New Year's toys for the "Hurkit", and others were for the charity fund "UA Help." 3 PARTICIPATIONS IN CHARITY FAIRS. Throughout the past year, we continued our mission of promoting Ukrainian culture and helping the Ukrainian army. Therefore, we participated three times in charity fairs, raising funds for various military needs. 2 NEW TEAM MEMBERS. 2023 was not short on new acquaintances; so, two new members joined our team. 1 BIG THANK YOU TO YOU. In 2024, we continue our journey into the world of Ukrainian culture and educational activities! We plan to do more, better, and more efficiently. We suggest keeping your hearts open as we are already working on a new collection of shoppers. We promise you'll love it!

Can you help families in Newport?
CAN YOU HELP? As part our of Social Value work to positively support the communities in which we work, we are working with local partners to transform an unused space in a Newport Hotel into a safe communal space for families who have lost their homes for various reasons and are now living in the hotel together with very limited facilities. We are setting up a comfy lounge area, a play area, an IT area for school studies and for access to online services and a private space for meeting with support workers, councillors etc for the families. We already have donations of sofas and laptops for children to study, but the room needs a playpen for toddlers to play safely so parents can chat/get to know each other/support each other - there is no other facility here and no useable outside space. All of the children living at the hotel said they would also love to have arts and crafts materials, clay, playdoh, paint, etc as they are not allowed these in their rooms. Can anyone help with donations of a playpen or arts and crafts materials so we can help to make day to day lives a little better?? If so, please get in touch! Thank you!

Kia Ora Māmā needs your help 💓 Ka nui te mihi ki ngā māmā katoa i tēnei rangi whakanui i a tātou! In 2019, I started Kia Ora Māmā to support and empower Māori Māmā. It started as a FB group page, then grew into a community with events and resources created to tautoko our Māori māmā because I'm sure we can all agree, there's not enough! It is a safe space for Māori mothers to connect and share in the journey of being a māmā, the highs and lows. We have a current membership of 5k+ and growing. The kaupapa has been stagnant lately as I haven't had the capacity or support to keep the momentum going which is sad because I know how needed Kia Ora Māmā is. We have māmā using our community as the first port of call in stressful situations. We have the community and engagement, now we need the resources to create the necessary services for our Māori Māmā (not the other way around which is what I see in some of our current services). If you're looking to end the week with a good turn, I just stumbled upon Solent Mind's Amazon wishlists, and five minutes and £50 later there's a few games and toys being sent to refugee families in Southampton. ...With apologies in advance for the bust-ups that Uno will cause, if our family is anything to go by. (It's for the best that Sandwich Masters, aka Divorce Masters, wasn't on the wishlist.) There are items at all price points available to donate, so a great way to give if you or your business only have/has a few quid to put to good use. In their own words: We have invited every service to put together a wish list of items that would help in running the services and supporting our service users. These range from stationary to games and gazebos. The services with wish lists currently include The Lighthouse crisis service, Remind dementia service and our Children and Young People services. Any items purchased from these wishlists will be delivered directly to the service and put into use immediately, this allows us to access items that current funding may not currently cover.
