For the most part, attorneys have always been my favorite guest writers, since they file nearly perfect copy. But these days I'm leaning more toward scientists, because they bring receipts. And oh my, does Jeff Rawson have data to back up what he's saying in this very consequential column ... https://lnkd.in/eZjEJA8s
So I don’t have the benefit of looking at your raw data, but just from your graph, it appears that MOST of the results are within 20% of the stated COA value. If you’ll recall, the producers in MA get to choose their lab samples, not the labs. The samples that are cherry picked to be tested then by definition represent 15lbs of product. (That’s a LOT of weed, js) One can prove up to a 20% variance within a single plant (3-4oz or so), so a 20% variance from the COA within a 15lb batch isn’t all that bad considering
A standards lab is literally the one thing that would catch these bad actor labs (and hold the other labs accountable in the future), short of shutting labs down (which the CCC would never do, because they're toothless). Putting more staff in a corrupt CCC testing lab department is a horrifying idea. K (first initial) is the problem, and I imagine Jeff knows that. This seals it for me. A standards lab is needed, in the short term, and it should probably be run by the OIG.
Analytical testing is my bread and butter if you ever wanna interview me.
Thanks so much to Talking Joints Memo for publishing my column, and to Chris Faraone for his great editing! I'm very proud of this work, and grateful for the platform to share it.
Hell yes, scientists bring the data and citations! Way to go Jeff Rawson
