I was updating my LinkedIn page the other day (it's a work in progress!) and I came across the job I had when I lived in Perth - admin and accounts receivable for a large geotechnical company in 2004 and 2005. Was it still relevant? Should I leave it there? What does it add in terms of what I do now? And the conclusion I came to was, yep, leave it there. Prepping tome-like geotechnical reports for large mining clients gave me an appreciation for presentation and absolute accuracy. Not to mention a decent bicep workout lugging them out to be boxed up and couriered around Western Australia. Being tasked with managing debt collection - including multi-million dollar accounts - was no small feat. It required a delicate balance of empathy, continual engagement, and helping clients get a plan in place to settle their debts. Seeing a substantial debt paid was pretty satisfying! As for liaising with the company’s huge team of geotechnical engineers and scientists? Well, that was an exercise in patience for 20-something Dani and realising that we're all communicators. We just have different styles. But ultimately our goal was the same - to communicate information to clients that was relevant and useful to them. So yes, Dani the admin and accounts receivable officer gets to stay on the LinkedIn profile.
