New + exciting progress on the Oregon Acoustics Research Laboratory (OARL) facility being built at the Port of Portland's Mass Timber and Housing Innovation Campus at Terminal 2✨ Lack of acoustics testing facilities is widely recognized as a barrier to the development of affordable mass timber multi-family assemblies in North America. Exciting news from Terminal 2: The Port of Portland has approved a lease with the University of Oregon to bring the Oregon Acoustic Research Laboratory (OARL) to our Mass Timber and Housing Innovation Campus! This state-of-the-art lab will be the first in the West Coast to test and certify sound-dampening technologies for buildings made from sustainable mass timber—making mass timber homes quieter to live in and easier to build. OARL is just one part of our revitalization of Terminal 2 as an innovation campus, designed to: 🏗️ Address Oregon’s housing shortage by increasing the housing supply 🔬 Drive innovation with cutting-edge research and development 👩🏭 Train the next generation of skilled workers 🚀 Empower small businesses to scale and succeed This progress is powered by incredible partnerships and support from the U.S. Economic Development Administration, the Oregon Mass Timber Coalition, and many others. Building Better Regions Community of Practice coalitions across the country are opening doors to more innovation and economic progress than ever before. In Portland, the Oregon Mass Timber Coalition is working with its partners to complete the Oregon Acoustics Research Laboratory at the Port of Portland's Mass Timber and Housing Innovation Campus. This will provide critical space for acoustics testing, making it easier to get approval for residential mass timber construction. 

"Retrofit is a multifaceted issue and to get anywhere close to meeting our targets, this is ultimately the biggest infrastructure project of a generation." At the International Retrofit Conference, Rob Morrison announced the relaunch of Retrofit Scotland and its ultimate mission. Delivered by BE-ST, the programme will connect industry leaders, academics, community groups, and government partners, to work together on practical ways to improve Scotland’s built environment. The Infrastructure Gap: Unlocking Cambridge’s full potential.   A new campaign overseen by Cambridge entrepreneur and national policy advisor Dr David Cleevely CBE FREng FIET CBE and renowned economist Dame Kate Barker has been launched by Cambridge Ahead. The campaign will look to find solutions to the Cambridge infrastructure gap – and show how the city’s potential can be unlocked for the benefit of residents, other regions and the whole of the UK - beginning with a letter to the Chancellor warning that the UK economy will take a significant hit unless the widening infrastructure gap in the nation’s fastest growing city is addressed. Tim Deacon, Director, Turnstone Estates, said: “It’s clear the Government has clocked the huge potential contribution Cambridge could deliver to UK PLC growth. "I commend the work by Cambridge Ahead to demonstrate Cambridge’s full potential and to highlight the risk of the economy stalling - there is a significant infrastructure gap to bridge.
