November me and my teammate Daniel both studying 42 Heilbronn had the incredible opportunity to join the SIMVEC Hackathon in Baden-Baden organized by the VDI e.V. We built a virtual engineering assistant capable of answering questions about engineering data using the Data Context Hub (DCH) and Memory 4 Your AI (M4AI) module. Here’s what we achieved: 1️⃣ Data Integration: We uploaded engineering data into DCH. 2️⃣ Relationship Mapping: Defined connections between entities and visualized them in a graph. 3️⃣ AI Power: Connected this graph to a generative AI model to make the assistant truly interactive. 💡 Imagine asking, “Which dummy body parts are used most in car crash tests?” – and receiving precise answers, instantly! Segment Anything 2 (SAM2) - tutorials, examples, demos 🔥 🔥 🔥 SAM2 - a foundation model capable of visual segmentation in both images and videos - was released by Meta on Monday. I've been burning the midnight oil since then, preparing a ton of materials to show you how to use the model and what's possible. - Two Google Colabs demonstrating how to use SAM2 to segment images and videos. The Mother of all Demos I think alot about this 1968 presentation from Douglas Engelbart. Linked is a short video but the full 90 minutes presentation on Youtube is the full experience. Per Wikipedia : "[it]....demonstrated for the first time many of the fundamental elements of modern personal computing: windows, hypertext, graphics, efficient navigation and command input, video conferencing, the computer mouse, word processing, dynamic file linking, revision control, and a collaborative real-time editor. Engelbart's presentation was the first to publicly demonstrate all of these elements in a single system." We live in an age of incredible innovation. Whether it's in Crypto, AI, Metaverse, self driving cars, distributed computing, mobile technologies - even Space is back. Sometimes the version 1 is rough and the use cases are not super obvious or refined. We all know it took another visionary and genius of industrial design in Steve Jobs to bring these interfaces from the Xerox PARC and get them in front of users. Kudos to all those innovating and taking us from from zero to one.
