🚨 Ensuring Safety Through Design: Reactor Incident Reminds Us of Industry Imperatives 🚨 Yesterday's unfortunate reactor incident occurred in Dombivli MIDC, Mumbai serves as a stark reminder of the critical importance of meticulous design and stringent safety measures in the chemical industry. Reactors are the heart of chemical processes, but without proper design considerations and fail-safes, they can pose significant risks to both personnel and the environment. While accidents are rare, their potential consequences underscore the need for continuous vigilance and improvement in our industry practices. As professionals engaged in chemical engineering and design, it's incumbent upon us to prioritize safety at every stage of reactor development and operation. Key considerations in reactor design include: Material Selection: Choosing materials that can withstand the operating conditions and potential stresses is paramount. Compatibility with reactants, corrosion resistance, and mechanical strength are all critical factors. Process Understanding: Deep comprehension of the chemical reactions and kinetics involved is essential for designing reactors that can efficiently and safely facilitate these processes. Safety Systems: Incorporating redundant safety systems, such as pressure relief valves, emergency shutdown mechanisms, and containment measures, can mitigate the impact of unforeseen incidents. Operational Protocols: Establishing robust operational protocols, including regular maintenance schedules, thorough inspections, and comprehensive training for personnel, is vital for ensuring safe reactor operation. While investigations into yesterday's incident are ongoing, it serves as a sobering reminder of the ever-present need for diligence and adherence to best practices in reactor design and operation. Let's use this moment to reaffirm our commitment to safety and excellence in our industry. #ChemicalEngineering #ReactorDesign #SafetyFirst #ChemicalIndustry #ProcessSafety

Corrosion - Best Practices • Adopt corrosion management strategy • Be aware of corrosion • Involve contractors in planning • Develop maintenance programs, measure corrosion • Consider dedicated corrosion engineer • Read relevant literature • Use your eyes! - report corrosion • Design your completion to minimise corrosion • Ensure inhibitors are compatible with materials and the reservoir! • If tubing corrosion is suspected, DO NOT bullhead fluids in the formation corrosion in tubing made worse by erosion from wireline operators.
