Illinois Soil and Water Conservation Districts have secured a grant from the IEPA that will fund updates to the best management practices of the Illinois Urban Manual (IUM), as well as streamlining the functionality of the website. This will not be a comprehensive overhaul, but will encompass many key upgrades. The Manual will continue to evolve over time as funds become available. Steering and Technical Committee have begun their review meetings. If you are an IUM user, your input is welcome! Visit https://lnkd.in/gESJeC_c. The IUM is intended for use as a technical reference by developers, planners, engineers, government officials and others involved in land use planning, building site development, and natural resource conservation in rural and urban communities and developing areas. It is the standard against which Illinois SWCDs perform soil erosion and sediment control inspections. illinoisurbanmanual.org #SoilAndWaterConservation #SustainableUrbanDevelopment

"The RESTORE Council [Gulf Coast Ecosystem Restoration Council] requests public comment periodically to provide Gulf stakeholders the opportunity to provide feedback on Council activities... Amendment Bundle: Norton Creek Sanitary Sewer Inflow and Infiltration Rehabilitation Project, High (HWY) 297a Retrofit Pond Project, and Tribal Youth Coastal Restoration Program Expansion July 18-August 16, 2024 The Gulf Coast Ecosystem Restoration Council (Council) is seeking public comments on a proposal to approve implementation funding for two ecosystem restoration activities. The Council is also proposing to expand the geographic boundary of a previously-approved Funded Priority List (FPL) program and to reallocate funding among two previously-approved FPL projects. Specifically, the Council is planning to vote on whether to approve the following: - $7,500,000 in implementation funds for the Norton Creek Sanitary Sewer Inflow and Infiltration Rehabilitation project, a component of the FPL 3b Coastal Alabama Regional Water Quality Program. - $1,000,000 in implementation funds for the Highway 297a Retrofit Pond project, a component of the FPL 3b Florida Water Quality Improvement Program. - Expansion of the geographic boundary for the FPL 3b Tribal Youth Coastal Restoration Program to include the possibility of working with the Alabama-Coushatta Tribe of Texas on land owned by the National Park Service within the Big Thicket National Preserve, Texas. - Reallocation of $37,660 in previously-approved FPL 1 funding from the Plug Abandoned Oil and Gas Wells project in Texas to the Jean Lafitte Canal Backfilling project in Louisiana (see pages 36 and 63). These proposed approvals are independent of each other; the Council can vote to approve all of the proposed amendments listed above, a subset of them, or none...The Council invites the public to offer comments on these proposed actions. Comments should be limited to the projects listed above... ... the Council is publishing these FPL amendments for a 30-day public comment period beginning on July 18, 2024 and concluding at 11:59 pm (CST) on August 16, 2024..." #DeepwaterHorizon #RESTOREcouncil #PublicComment #projects #amendments #restoration https://lnkd.in/gDCinwtx

In addition to performing VPDES/NPDES monitoring and inspections on residential and commercial developments, Compliance Professionals has the pleasure of consulting stream restorations including this one in conjunction with Virginia Department of Transportation and Resource Environmental Solutions LLC: https://lnkd.in/daG-hW5V Land disturbance is already underway, and improvements are already visible! The project will take quite a few months due to many years of erosion and soil loss, but the benefits to downstream invertebrates and fish are significant

To my fellow engineers and landscape architects (and others interested!) in Massachusetts and who do work in MA, MA DEP has been working on updating the MA Stormwater Handbook. I feel a little late to the game diving into it, so wanted to pass along the info to others who may not be aware as it has implications to anyone working in the site development industry. Here is a link to the website that talks about the process, etc.: https://lnkd.in/eyXVabrZ As the draft handbook is a 860 page document, it may be helpful to get the overview which is in presentation form and can be found here: https://lnkd.in/eTnfR4MB Happy reading :0)

We want to share with you the findings of an independent report on why the Ōrākei main sewer collapsed in September 2023. When it occurred, wastewater overflowed into the Waitematā Harbour for several weeks. This was distressing for iwi and our community, and we sincerely apologise. We welcome the report which sheds light on what contributed to the incident and how we can do better for you, your whānau and the environment. Those contributing factors include the condition of the sewer pipe, the exceptionally wet weather, and weakened concrete blocks at the site of the collapse. Our focus is now firmly on embracing the report’s recommendations and walking the talk. We’re already working on new condition inspection and renewals intervention strategies and are ramping up planned investment in wastewater renewals. Our $86.74 million investment in relining 1.6km of the Ōrākei main sewer will reduce the risk of further collapses in Parnell.
