Keep Your Heart Pumping Safe: It's American Heart Health Month! ❤️ Heart health impacts EVERYONE, including America's diverse workforce. Did you know... - Heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women in the United States. - Construction workers are 50% more likely to die from a heart attack than workers in other occupations. - Manufacturing workers have a 20% higher risk of stroke compared to the national average. - In industries with physically demanding roles, employees often don't recognize early heart attack symptoms. The good news? Taking action can save lives. This American Heart Health Month, prioritize employees' cardiovascular well-being: 1. Be AED Aware: Ensure easy access to Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) and train your staff on their proper use. Every minute counts during a cardiac emergency! ⚡️ 2. Promote Healthy Habits: Encourage physical activity, healthy eating, and stress management programs. Remember, prevention is key! 3. Display Visible Reminders: Post educational signs about heart health awareness, healthy habits, and the location of your AEDs. Keep safety top of mind! Let's work together to build a future where everyone, in every industry, can thrive with a healthy heart. #AmericanHeartMonth #WorkplaceSafety #HeartHealth #AEDAwareness P.S. Share your heart health initiatives in the comments! We'd love to hear how you're keeping your employees safe and well. ❤️ Bonus Tip: Consider partnering with a local health organization to offer CPR/AED training or heart health screenings in your workplace. 𝘼𝙧𝙚 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙩𝙞𝙧𝙚𝙙 𝙤𝙛 𝙬𝙖𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙪𝙡𝙩𝙨? 4 years ago, while working as an OPD nurse, I cared for a gentleman with a large laceration. He was really frustrated by the frequent trips to the hospital for his wound dressings but I kept on reassuring him. So one day, he asked me, "Aunty Nurse, can’t you just combine all the wound dressing solutions and use them at once to speed up my healing?" I understood his frustration, but the truth is, healing is a process that requires patience. When you’re faced with a health challenge, seeking help becomes inevitable; I've been there myself. But in our desperation to find solutions, we often forget that our bodies are not machines; they can’t be rushed or duplicated. Often, even after following your treatment plan, you still need to give your body time to heal naturally. It’s really tempting to look for additional treatments in hopes of speeding up the process, but this isn’t always the best approach in most cases. 🔹️If you’re dealing with a skin condition, I understand how troubling it can be. But remember, healing takes time. 🔹️If you’re on a weight loss journey, I know how eager you are to see results, but your body needs time to adjust and respond to the changes. 🔹️If you’ve recently recovered from an acute infection, even after treatment, your body still needs time to heal. There’s no rush. The best thing you can do for your body during the healing process is to support it with: - Healing affirmations such as: I give myself permission to heal. - Healthy food - Quality sleep - Good personal hygiene - Plenty of water - Timely use of medication - Moderate exercise if you can. Looking to take your Valentine’s Day dates outdoors? Be sure to exercise caution. A recent study revealed that young adults aged 18 to 39 made up the majority of heat injury cases, with the primary cause being exercise-related exertion. Presenting at a climate change and heat health seminar at Duke-NUS Medical School on Jan 26, Professor Marcus Ong shared that improper attire, activity and Singapore’s year-round humidity impact one’s susceptibility to heat strain. As heat illnesses can be fatal, he added that it is imperative for one to seek prompt medical attention in the face of heat injuries, and should remain cautious even amid cool weather. As you gear up for outdoor dates, be sure to bring enough water for adequate hydration. Wearing cooling fabrics, too, can aid in mitigating the dangers of heat injuries. Be mindful of heat safety and ensure an enjoyable time with your significant other — together, you both can beat the heat! 🔥Read this The Straits Times piece to learn more: #AIASG #HealthierLongerBetterLives #AIAOneBillion #AOBSG #AIABelieveInBetter
