How long should you ice knee? Icing the knee is a common method used to reduce pain and inflammation after an injury or surgery. The recommended duration for icing the knee is typically 15-20 minutes at a time. This allows enough time for the cold therapy to be effective without causing harm to the skin or tissues. It is also advisable to give the skin a break between icing sessions to prevent frostbite or skin damage. Additionally, it is important to wrap the ice pack in a cloth or towel to provide a barrier between the ice and the skin to prevent ice burns. If you have any specific medical conditions or concerns, it is best to consult a healthcare professional for personalized advice on icing your knee. BRACES are only effective if the patient is still growing and their curvature is greater than 25-40 degrees, especially if the condition is caught early on. Braces don’t straighten the spine, but they do prevent the curvature from becoming worse. Patients need to wear the brace for 16-23 hours a day until they stop growing, with the effectiveness increasing with the number of hours worn. SURGERY is usually reserved for patients who have curvatures greater than 40 degrees, and can also be an option if you feel the curvature is causing undue discomfort or interrupting your daily life. If you have an abnormal spinal curvature, or your child does, come in to see our spine specialists to get the proper treatment. #scoliosis #spinesurgery #discomfort #momlife

hey connections, foot drop strengthen muscles and help you walk better. Nerve stimulation may help retrain the nerves and muscles of the foot. Surgery may be needed to relieve pressure on the nerve or to try to repair it. For long-term foot drop, your provider may suggest fusing the ankle or foot bones. Or you may have tendon surgery. In this, a working tendon and attached muscle is transferred to a different part of the foot. Outlook (Prognosis) How well you recover depends on what is causing foot drop. Foot drop will often go away completely. If the cause is more severe, such as stroke, you may not recover completely. When to Contact a Medical Professional Contact your provider if you have trouble walking or controlling your foot, including: Your toes drag on the floor while walking. Your foot makes a slapping noise on the ground as you walk (steppage gait). You are unable to hold up the front of your foot. You have decreased sensation, numbness, or tingling in your foot or toes. Understanding ACL Injuries and Treatments An ACL injury involves the tearing or spraining of the anterior cruciate ligament, a crucial tissue connecting your thigh bone to your shin bone. These injuries often occur in sports demanding sudden direction changes, stops, jumps, and landings. 🔍 ACL Repair and Reconstruction: A Glimpse into Orthopedic Surgery ACL repair or reconstruction is a common arthroscopic procedure in orthopedic surgery, aiming to restore knee stability. The procedure involves repairing the torn ACL using sutures, with a graft from the hamstring, patella tendon, or a cadaveric ligament. The repaired ligament is carefully threaded through tunnels in the knee, then reattached to its original position using small screws. Stay informed and stay safe! Remember, prevention is key, but if an injury occurs, modern medicine is here to help. #OrthoNeuro #ACLInjury #OrthopedicSurgery #SportsMedicine #HealthyLiving

Beyond Limits: Orthopedic Stories of Strength and Recovery! Every person brings a unique story of strength and recovery to the world of orthopedics. Recently, I had the privilege of caring for a 40-year-old who faced a tough Road Traffic Accident, dealing with a complicated Grade 2 fracture of the tibia and fibula. Quick decisions led us to perform a surgery called CRIF Intramedullary Interlocking nail. It wasn't just about fixing bones; the aim was to swiftly help the patient move better. Remarkably, just two days after the surgery, something incredible happened – the patient started walking! It's not only about fixing the body; it's a testament to the incredible strength people have. These moments reinforce the significance of orthopedic care. It's not only about fixing bones; it's about making people feel better inside too. Here's to celebrating every small and big victory on the journey to health and healing. 🚑#GettingBetter #OrthopedicCare #SmallWinsMatter #HealingJourney
