My family and friends have found that Mathew's brain is constantly thinking in terms of saving and investing. Here are a few examples: - If I was planning to get take out for a meal but opt for a more cost effective home cooked meal, I invest the cost savings difference (take out meal - home cooked meal) - If I redeem reward points (such as Starbucks points), I invest the dollar amount of the rewards My most recent story of this is my partner and I out shopping. When looking at a few dresses (for her), I raised my eyebrows a few times at the prices. Humorously, I said "this dress is worth two CP (Canadian Pacific Kansas City) stocks." As you can imagine, her eyes rolled pretty quickly. It may be easiest for most to save a certain percentage of your income or a certain dollar amount. However, it can be fun to 'gamify' your saving and investing. #personalfinance #financialindependence #finance #investing

My parent didn't give me money. They gave me time, love ideas, and lots of book to read. But when it comes to money, I was on my own. My father once told me the following anecdote: A father once asked her daughter to buy him a bottle of wine. When the daughter asked for money, the father responded: "It's not big deal to get wine with money, everyone can do that. Let's see if you can get wine without Money." A short while later the daughter came back with a bottle. To the father's surprise, the bottle was empty. "What am I to do with an empty bottle? He asked. "Well dad, it's no big deal to pour wine from a full bottle. Let's see if you can pour from an empty one." My father then asked me Who do you think was right, the father or the son?
