One of the most common questions we get asked is, 'How much time is needed to complete the course each week?' Throughout the 16 week duration of the program there is approximately 6-7 hours of time investment. In between the welcome and closing week are 7 core two week modules that follow the following flow: - 2-3 hours of asynchronous time to review pre-recorded lectures, and read and watch other curricular materials. - 1.5 hours of synchronous time spent in a small discussion group facilitated by a Wave Mentor Coach. These small groups are established at the beginning of the cohort and remain consistent throughout. - 2.5 hours of synchronous group practice and instruction. This time is facilitated by Wave Mentor Coaches and includes the whole cohort. - We also have two extended Saturday classes.These are 6-hour live sessions where the group does community building activities, peer practice, as well as receives 1:1 feedback from Wave Mentor Coaches. We have are grateful to our alumni whose feedback has helped us to shape the sequence of curriculum and shape these different learning segments to support awareness building and integration of the material :)

Apologies for the radio silence lately, I'm a few hours a day short of being able to maintain a social life! You know, just the typical running a nonprofit, two toddlers, and teenager hustle. All jokes aside, I've been completely immersed in our work with Start-Up. Some of you might recall that last year we launched a pilot program called Camp CommUnity in the rural community of Wimberley, Texas and after so many remarkable successes, our board opted to prioritize the advancement of this program, so we've been busy building. We recently launched our website and strategic vision for CU and I couldn't be more excited to share. Here's an excerpt about why we're putting CU first: "Camp CommUnity wasn’t just a pilot; it was a powerful evolution of where we were-- and where we were going, aligning perfectly with our vision for our children, their education, and the future they deserve. While this new program wasn’t based on entrepreneurship, it was fostering a sense of belonging, community, and empowerment in our children. It was equipping them with the skills and resilience they need to thrive in an ever-changing world. It was bigger than Start-Up Kids Club---and it's bigger than Wimberley." The Nv Portrait is like no other - question-driven, learner-centered. Its implementation is grounded in a marvel of an integrated system of support structures and processes. The Nv model provides any state’s dept of ed with strategy to bring together standards, competencies, the Portrait as North Star, professional capacity-building, grassroots buildout across stakeholders-learners, educators, parents, biz community, nonprofit orgs-budget, and importantly, leadership from the top that links up the NDE with intermediary leadership. Together this collaborative culture is building the roadmap and providing the resources necessary for the journey to make the Nv Portrait of a Learner a driver of real change to equip young people with an education essential to thriving in life.
