As ever, this was a session packed with insights and data from HolonIQ! A few observations on what this means for HE and for edtech partners: ⚡ There will be an additional 970m students in post-secondary education by 2050 with the biggest growth in Africa. 𝐻𝐸𝐼𝑠 𝑛𝑒𝑒𝑑 𝑡𝑜 𝑐𝑜𝑛𝑠𝑖𝑑𝑒𝑟 𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑠 𝑑𝑒𝑚𝑜𝑔𝑟𝑎𝑝ℎ𝑖𝑐 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑙𝑒𝑎𝑟𝑛𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑗𝑜𝑢𝑟𝑛𝑒𝑦 𝑖𝑛 𝑙𝑖𝑓𝑒𝑙𝑜𝑛𝑔 𝑙𝑒𝑎𝑟𝑛𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑠𝑡𝑟𝑎𝑡𝑒𝑔𝑖𝑒𝑠 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑖𝑛𝑖𝑡𝑖𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑣𝑒𝑠. ⚡ HE and corporate training are the key areas where AI is expected to have the greatest impact. ⚡ Education leaders are focusing on: 1. the learner and their end-to-end experience 2. outcomes as a universal language  3. evolving models 𝑇ℎ𝑖𝑠 𝑝𝑜𝑖𝑛𝑡 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑎𝑏𝑜𝑣𝑒 ℎ𝑎𝑣𝑒 𝑎 𝑏𝑖𝑔 𝑖𝑚𝑝𝑎𝑐𝑡 𝑜𝑛 𝑡ℎ𝑒 ‘𝑑𝑒𝑔𝑟𝑒𝑒’ 𝑎𝑠 𝑜𝑢𝑡𝑐𝑜𝑚𝑒, 𝑒𝑠𝑝𝑒𝑐𝑖𝑎𝑙𝑙𝑦 𝑖𝑛 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑐𝑜𝑛𝑡𝑒𝑥𝑡 𝑜𝑓 𝑠𝑘𝑖𝑙𝑙𝑠-𝑏𝑎𝑠𝑒𝑑 ℎ𝑖𝑟𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑙𝑎𝑏𝑜𝑢𝑟 𝑚𝑎𝑟𝑘𝑒𝑡 𝑛𝑒𝑒𝑑𝑠 𝑡𝑜 𝑐𝑙𝑜𝑠𝑒 𝑠𝑘𝑖𝑙𝑙𝑠 𝑔𝑎𝑝𝑠 4. advanced tech integration and interoperability. ⚡ AI is impacting the full learning journey from admissions to learner support, assessment to talent (with use of AI across vision, voice, language, and analytics). ⚡ Greater opportunity with AI to integrate content and assessment 𝑤𝑖𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑛 the learning experience rather than happening separately. ⚡ Key opportunities for AI in: 1. Assessment, tutoring, and test prep (ie new types like stealth and silent). 𝑊𝑒 𝑛𝑒𝑒𝑑 𝑡𝑜 𝑚𝑜𝑣𝑒 𝑏𝑒𝑦𝑜𝑛𝑑 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑓𝑜𝑐𝑢𝑠 𝑜𝑛 𝑝𝑙𝑎𝑔𝑖𝑎𝑟𝑖𝑠𝑚 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑘 𝑡𝑜𝑤𝑎𝑟𝑑𝑠 𝑛𝑒𝑤 𝑡𝑦𝑝𝑒𝑠 𝑜𝑓 𝑎𝑠𝑠𝑒𝑠𝑠𝑚𝑒𝑛𝑡 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝑖𝑛𝑡𝑒𝑔𝑟𝑎𝑡𝑒 ℎ𝑢𝑚𝑎𝑛 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝐴𝐼 𝑐𝑎𝑝𝑎𝑏𝑖𝑙𝑖𝑡𝑖𝑒𝑠 2. personalised mentoring and coaching for skills and behavior change (esp in the workforce)  3. authentic immersive learning experiences (𝑔𝑖𝑣𝑒𝑛 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑐𝑜𝑠𝑡 𝑏𝑎𝑟𝑟𝑖𝑒𝑟 𝑓𝑜𝑟 𝑐𝑜𝑛𝑡𝑒𝑛𝑡 𝑐𝑟𝑒𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑖𝑛 𝑉𝑅/𝐴𝑅 𝑖𝑠 𝑛𝑜𝑤 𝑙𝑜𝑤𝑒𝑟𝑒𝑑)  4. teacher productivity tools. I try and keep a lookout for interesting edtechs and I’ve definitely noticed more diversity in the market across Europe recently which HolonIQ confirmed. It feels like we’re still to reach the peak of the AI hype and big expectations…interesting to see how Pearson Ventures is approaching it. Will some of the new initiatives become ‘features’ within wider offerings that can be replicated by other providers? Which edtechs will have a sustainable edge?
