On Christmas Eve 1970, my Mother warned us that the Christmas tree would be sparse with presents. That moment sparked my fascination with performance in all its forms, particularly in business and sports. Last night, listening to Jude Bellingham, I saw clear parallels between sports and SME business ownership. 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬: Jude emphasises practising penalties to build confidence and muscle memory. For us in business, consistent preparation—reviewing processes, training staff, refining skills—is key. Regular practice keeps us sharp and ready for those high-pressure moments. 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐦 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐅𝐨𝐜𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐝: Jude’s mental preparation techniques, like visualisation, keep him composed during penalties. As business owners, we can use mindfulness and clear goal-setting to maintain focus and make sound decisions under stress. 𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞: Repetition builds Jude’s confidence on the field. In business, developing and sticking to standard procedures ensures we can handle tasks efficiently and with confidence. 𝐑𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐌𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Each of Jude’s routines is unique to him. After reading 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝟓 𝐀𝐌 𝐂𝐥𝐮𝐛 𝐛𝐲 𝐑𝐨𝐛𝐢𝐧 𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐚, I’ve picked up some powerful lessons about harnessing early mornings for self-mastery and success. The book emphasizes the "𝐕𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐇𝐨𝐮𝐫" between 5-6 AM, where your focus is on three pillars: move, reflect, and grow. According to him the first hour of your day (5-6 AM) is critical for personal growth. Split it into three parts—20 minutes for exercise, 20 minutes for reflection (meditation/journaling), and 20 minutes for learning. These help improve mental clarity, physical health, and personal growth. Sharma introduces the idea of nurturing the four "𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐫 𝐄𝐦𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐬" – 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐬𝐞𝐭, 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐬𝐞𝐭, 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡𝐬𝐞𝐭, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐬𝐞𝐭 – as a holistic approach to life.
